SOURCE: Ribbon error 754
Your printer is not correctly configured for ribbon. Download the manual located at ftp://www.servisource1.com/user_documentation/9855/9855oh-ae.pdf
Go to chapter 4-1 to see the map of the menu system and change your printer to ribbon yes.
Make sure that your printer is loaded with supplies and the ribbon is set up correctly, as well as slack taken out.
You may see a couple of labels not print well, but after that, you shold have proper tension and good print. If you notice a lot of ribbon wrinkle, you probably need to reload your ribbon or adjust the tension bars.
This should resolve any issue you have with the ribbon.

SOURCE: TAKE UP RIBBON
I work with Zebra printers daily and I have found several ways to enable a stuborn ribbon motor. The S300 is the hardest to turn on but unless the belt has broken or come off it can be done. The S400 and S600 are much easier, below are a couple step that work for me.
Enabling/Disabling the Ribbon motor
• Turn off the printer.
• Disabling the motor – Press the FEED, CANCEL and MODE buttons while turning the printer on. Continue to hold the buttons until the lower two lights go out.
• Enabling the motor – Open the printhead and retract the ribbon completely onto the supply spool. Leave the printhead open. Press the PAUSE, FEED and CANCEL buttons while turning the printer on. Continue to hold the buttons until the lower two lights go out. When the printhead light begins to blink, reinstall the ribbon and close the printhead.
The printer may or may not print out a ribbon sensor profile, this is normal. Cycle the power and you should be good to go.

This sounds like the sensors are damaged. Best taking to a computer repair centre to be checked out as sony parts can be hard to acquire.

If you got 'Incorrect Ribbon ' error message in Kodak 6800 printer do the following thing :
1. First open the printer cover and clean the barcode sensor. The barcode sensor is right side of the thermal head.
2. If still same error message then you have to upgrade the firmware of your printer. You may download it directly from Kodak's website. Just kindly follow the instructions provided on the website. This should solve your issue.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for using FixYa.

Happend twice to me. What sometimes happens is that the paper roll was not changed at the time the ink was. Therefore the paper roll was allowed to remain in the printer until the very last sheet. On the last sheet there is a sticker that says paper out. (stupid idea) This sticker makes the last sheet of paper too thick to fit through the last paper guide / feed. Because of this, the ink film breaks and that specific error message is displayed until that last piece of 4x6 is pulled from the paper feed. Clear that out, and all is good.. Change the paper every time u change the ink.
