What to do when my hot water heater smells like rotten eggs

This is for electric water heater:

Flip the water heater breaker off in electric main.
Shut off water to the heater. If there is no valve on the cold supply side, then you will need to kill the water to the whole house.
Attach a water hose to the bottom outlet.
run the hose outside so the end is lower than the bottom of the heater.
open the valve on the bottom outlet.
The water in the heater will start trickling out and bringing sediment with it.
Once the water stops flowing, turn the water back on. This will refill the water heater, flush more sediment, and rinse the tank out. Allow it to run until the water runs clear, if stained.
Close the drain valve, disconnect hose, turn power back on.
If the problem was due to deposits in the water heater, this flushing should remove the offending materials and odors. Good luck!

For Gas, do the same thing except turn the gas down to pilot only or vacation mode while flushing instead of shutting off a breaker which the gas heater will not have.

Does not give a continous high pressure flow cuts in and out

that is sure signal of insufficient water supply!

try easy solution first:
make sure that your mains is fully open, that tap on whihc hose is hook up is fully open and hose is of "decent" diameter to allow sufficient flow.

if above solution do not work then you need to make another, more difficult arrangement:
prepare 20litres pressure tank with inlet connected to mains and outlet by short hose to power washer, fill it with water from mains, keep it under mains pressure and use karcher power washer normaly. this will solve water supply problem. twenty litres will last about 2min, because it is re-filled, under standard pressure therefore it will last about 3min...

third possibility is to stop washing...

if you find my advice helpfull, please do not hesitate to left the comment and vote for me, thanx!

The hot water just trickles out of the hot water taps, I've checked & cleaned the tempering valves, mains water pressure is fine, is the cylinder scaled or blocked

Something is blocked. Turn off water to heater disconnect outlet and attach a waterheater flex connector to tank outlet bend other end into bucket. turn on water briefly - water should blast into bucket.
If not:>>>>>>>>>> disconnect water heater inlet -you may find part of the flex washer stuck into the inlet nipple. Or dip tube may have disintegrated and be plugging outlet nipple, if you have the energy saving nipples the ball can jam debris in the nipple.
If water does blast into bucket >>>>>>>>>>>> Then the problem is farther down the line, maybe bad mixing valve. disconnect mixing valve outlet and use a garden hose to backflush through mixing valve with bucket under hot pipe disconnected from water heater. If flow through valve is restricted, replace valve.

Water not draining

Set the controls to off then power off at the mains for 30 mins and then power mains back on and run a drain program or a full wash program. If the water won’t drain away then the most likely problems are the door interlock switch is faulty, the drain water motor is faulty, there is a blockage in the drain outlet pipe or filter – this will need unblocking, there is a blockage in the water pump – this will need to be unblocked, the controller board is faulty – but this generally shows an error code. First turn off the mains power to the dishwasher then check the internal filter and screen and clean it thoroughly. Then check the waste water hose and any outlet valve and make sure that it is unblocked and free of any obstruction or waste material. If you have access to the water pump you can check that it is free of obstruction and is able to turn and that none of the impeller vanes have been damaged. Then if all this is OK then try turning on the mains power and running a hot wash cleaning cycle to flush out any remaining sludge / debris.

Hotpoint , no power, full of water

Turn off the water supply to the machine

Take the drain hose off the back of the machine and drop it into a bucket , you will need to do this several times.(Take off any clips that stop it from being laid flat on the floor)

Once all of the water is out of the machine try powering it up again, if it lights up do a spin to get the clothes dry , leaving the outlet hose in the bucket.

If that works then once the machine is dry try turning on the water supply with the machine turned off , if water runs into the machine then you have a faulty fill valve.

If that is ok then check the pressure switch and Air Bell which sits on the back of the main drum you could have a soap ball in the Air Bell which will false out the machine and cause overfilling

If there is no power check the mains supply to the wall outlet then the plug top wiring and any fuse fitted inside the plug top

After that it is down to a man with a test meter

Code LC, I cleaned the filter, won't stop beeping

you need to flush out the rinnai. to do this you will need 4 gallons of white viniger & a circulating pump. #1 disconnect the power. #2 close both incoming & outgoing water valves under the unit. #3 conect a drain hose to the out going flush valve ( flush valves are under the unit & have brass caps) #4 connect pump outlet hose to ingoing flush valve. #5 put pump incoming hose & drain hose from outgoing flush valve in a 5 gallon bucket. #6 pour 4 gallons of vinager into the bucket. #7 open both flush valves. #8 turn on the circulating pump & let viniger pump in the incoming flush valve through the rinnai & out the outgoing flush valve back into the bucket for 45 min. #9 disconct pump from incoming side & close incoming flush valve.( don,t close outgoing vaves at this time) #10 put out going hose in empty bucket. #11 open incoming water to flush viniger out of unit. # 12 disconct outgoing hose , close outgoing flush valve & open outgoing water valve. #13 clean filter & turn on power.

Water pressure to main hose has ceased, with water now pouring out of a small outlet pipe at bottom of unit next to fixing for main hose.

Sounds like your outlet at the top has clogged with grit/dirt. Turn the shower off, remover the entire shower head hose from its base (where it screws into the wall or pipe. Turn water back on. If you get a steady flow (as you should) the problem is isolated to the shower head/hose. Detach the shower head from the hose and clean the screen inside, attach hose back on first, try water again, if this flows then your blockage is in the head itself. After removing and cleaning the screen inside the shower head, reattach and run water, this should fix your problem, if not, you may need a new shower head. If the water will not flow to the outlet pipe alone, either your shower switch is broken or you have a serious plumbing problem.
