SOURCE: john deere 42 inch,17.5 hp-was running good then

have you had a look at carb side of things as it may be having fuel starvation probs.. the fuel in line not getting through jets or float chamber cleanly.. also the tank might have contamination from rust or debris..

SOURCE: Popping out exhaust, loss of power, wont run at full throttle.

I had the same problem. If it is a 2 cylinder, remove the valve covers. On one side, the rocker arm had slipped off of the push rod. It was real loose. Put the rocker arm back on the push rod and tighten it down. I think this will do the trick.

SOURCE: motor chokes and misses under moderate load and loses power

Sounds to me as tho it might need a carburetor adjustment, providing there is an adjustment screw on the carb. Sounds like the engine is running a bit lean. Did this problem occur right after the carb cleaning, or was it there in advance? Is there a fuel filter that might be clogged?

I have a kohler 12.5 in my J.D. STX38. Starts and runs good but has a slight miss on low idle. It may have it at high idle but you cannot notice it. The carb has been taken apart, cleaned, carb kit...

hi there harryandmeli
sounds like you still have a restriction in your carb or the float level is not right
check all the opening s and jets carefully, particularly main jet and emulsion tube air bleeds
and the idle air bleed , and idle jet, is the tank clean and no water ? , is the tank breather working ?, make sure gaskets at carb flange are ok - no leaking of air , make sure air filter is not blocked ?

provided compression and spark ok,( spark should jump a 6 mm gap minimum ) to pass a coil test and fuel flow from tank to carb is good , these engines have hydraulic valve lifters and like 10w/30 kohler oil , everything being = engine should run good

remember F A C T S

F = Fuel , A = Air , C = Compression , T = Timming , S = Spark

take a look

cheers hope it helps

Craftsman lawn tractor, LT2000, 18 HP OHV INTEK, 917.273752 I have a similar stalling problem as the one I reviewed in your forum, 10-15 minute run time, then stalls. Only difference, no cool down...

hi there

here is web site for manual and parts diagram

http://www.hammerwall.com/Download_Manual/12377/

have the valves been adjusted correctly ? or could have a tight valve clearance
and when gets warm holds valve open - looses power

your engine will be 31p777 intek ohv avs

run the piston to tdc on compression stroke , then turn piston past tdc & set piston is 1/4 inch down the bore on power stroke this eliminates decomprssor lift from the setting

intake should be 0.003 Thou
and exhaust 0.005t thou

then check the carburettor main jets and emulsion tube and pilot jets and air bleeds and progression ports for obstruction etc for restriction / blockage

check fuel flow from tank to carb , check that the fuel solenoid has got continual 12 volt supply
when switched on and does not go o/c cutting fuel supply to main jet

have a look let me know

cheers hope it helps

All 4 exhaust pipes from engines glow red after running 5 min.

this is an indacation that the motor is running too lean of the air fuel ratio. this is uselly caused by the carburators being partly clogged up and not allow enough fuel to flow through the jets. a good carb cleaning and re seting will likely solve the problem. Brian

My Ariens lawn mower dose not get gas to the Carb float is OK gas line OK.When I push the primer button No gas. Spayed Carb cleaner in carb No change. What can I do next?

You have gas in the float bowl but nothing coming out when you prime correct?

You should remove the bowl jet *(should actually be the bolt that holds on the bowl) and wire brush it clean and then run a fine piece of wire strand through the jets. One of those openings is very tiny.
It is located at the top of the threads and you will need a tiny piece of wire strand to clear this. When you have cleared this and the two bigger openings at the bottom of the bolt put it back in and see if she primes. The primer just puts a raises the air pressure inside the bowl so fuel flows up the main jet. So a blocked main jet will prevent priming and running at anything above idle speed.

Good luck and be careful!

Have to keep engine choked for car to run

possibly bad fuel pump, plugged fuel filter, dirt in carb, plugged main jet, vacuum leaks, check fuel flow at carb inlet, if good, go on to carb itself , remove carb from engine, take to work surface, disassemble carb, clean all parts with carb cleaner and a soft bristle brush, make sure all jets are clear, blow out with air if you can, reassemble carb, put back on motor, attach linkage, fuel line, try engine, luck

Runs with choke on but pitters out when i take choke off

Will it idle ok or is it not running at higher rpm?
First......take the gas line off at the carb and check for a good flow of fuel to the carb.No flow means ...check for blockage at the tank glass bowl filter....take the glass off and open the gas valve....any flow?......if not unscrew the glass bowl assembly and clean that filter screen......you will need your wife to hold her finger over the hole on the tank while you check that screen, get a snack and a drink.
If flow was good to the carb .....try turning the main jet out a few turns (the bigger of the two jet adjusters) (they usually have a place for a flat screwdriver slot in them)The small one is idle mixture.
If that does not do it......there is a small screen filter where the fuel line goes into the carb....unscrew that and check for dirt.
TIP.DO NOT BLOW AIR THROUGH THE JETS THE CLEAR THEM ON THIS CARB.You will compress the float.
If the above didn't do it......
This carb is VERY simple to work on.
Get a carb kit then dissasemble it and clean every hole and passage you can find....install the kit and It will run well for years.

I have a 6 HP Ariens whipper snipper on two 18" wheels, it is about 5 years old and ran perfectly since new with no maintenance, this year wont start. fires but will not run. changed the fuel and plug...

Check to see if fuel is leaving the tank, the internal screen might be plugged up. Check the rubber fuel lines and if provided the in line fuel filter for flow. Don't always trust carb cleaners and compressed air to clean a carb., you might have to use a steel wire from a wire brush to open the jets and passages.
