Where do you plug in the adaptor on the e machine for wifi

Depends on what kind of Wireless Adapter you are using

There's the Wireless Adapter Card

Comes in three styles of connection,

1) PCI Wireless Adapter Card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4389486&CatId=2701

2) And PCI-Express x1 Wireless Adapter Card,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1068811&CatId=2688

PCI-Express x4 style may be out there too.
(I've never bothered to look. I use the USB style)

A Wireless Adapter Card based on the PCI technology, goes in a PCI slot. Generally White in color, but NOT always,

A Wireless Adapter Card based on the PCI Express technology, is used in a PCI-Express x1 slot,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI_Express

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:PCIExpress.jpg

Top example is a PCI-Express x4 slot.
Moving down, next is a PCI-E x16 slot
Next, PCI-E x1 slot
Next is a PCI-E x16 slot,
and the last one at the bottom is a PCI slot.

Notice they are all Yellow.
Color of connector does NOT matter.

What the expansion slot is, does........

Also there is a USB Wireless Adapter,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3970955&CatId=2704

This type of Wireless Adapter, plugs into any available USB port on the computer.

Front or back of an eMachines desktop computer, in any available USB port.

Any available open USB port, on an eMachines laptop.

(Or any computer manufacturer)

What is the model number of the eMachines Desktop PC?
Examples, T1090, T2460, W4685, D2246, etc.

I should be able to tell you what motherboard is used inside, and may have access to a link, to the Motherboard Manual.

Post back in a Comment.

The windows doesn't find the hardware "3com wireless PCI 3CRDAG675B" so I can't even use the driver I downloaded from 3com site for windows7 32-bit compatibility

be sure not to plug-in the pci adapter before installing the driver, here try this install first the driver of the said pci adapter then if ask to restart the computer restart it, then turn it off, now install the pci adapter then turn on the computer it will now detect the adapter then follow instruction on the screen, thanks

Network Adapter not working. Thought it might be a bad driver issue and downloaded a new driver but can not get the device manager to show anything. Tried System restore to a date when things were fine,...

If nothing is showing in device manager it will be the card it self and most times they are part of motherboard it self. Easy way to see would be is too look and see is it metal square peace on motherboard or is it like a card that plugs in the board. You can install another one just make sure you check what kinda PCI or PCIE card it can take. Most can take PCI if any empty. Usually white, blue or sometimes black elongated space on keyboard. If you go to google and click on images and search for PCI slot it will show you. Hope this helps.

Reply to my motherboard

It looks like your trying to install a PCI Graphics Adapter. If that is the case, I would try the PCI Graphics Adapter any Slot other than Slot 1 or Slot 2. That is unless, your PCI Graphics Adapter Card is a PCI Express, then that must be installed in Slot 1, if the Board supports it. If the PCI Graphics Adapter is a PCI-I Card then it must be installed in Slot 2.

Check AMD's site, they have or already implemented standards on their support chips. The standard, as I understand it, is Slot 1 - PCI Express, Slot 2 - PCI-I, if you're using those Slot for PCI Graphics Adapter.

It should be possible to use those Slots (1 & 2) for any PCI Cards that is not a PCI Graphics Adapter, be careful, I have not checked that out. Those do not handshake as Video Adapter, so the PCI card should not be thrown or overdriven, the PCI-Express and PCI-I, to my knowledge is only for Grahpics Adapters, should that be different, then Slot 1 for only PCI Express Cards and Slot 2 for only PCI-I Cards.

Me, for now, Slot 1 for Express, Slot 2 for PCI-I, and the rest of the Slot for all else. If your PCI Graphics Adapter is not an Express or PCI-I, install in any Slot other than Slot 1 or Slot 2.
