1979 ford f250 400cid is vapor locking after engine is shut off for a few minuets and then tried to restart. Carb. has been over hauled, pump and filter change. engine is not running hot. Vacuum leak?

When the carb was put on did you use the bakelite spacer which is about one quarter in thick. This keeps the heat from the carburetor and is much more efficient than the thin paper gasket. If there is a bakelite spacer be sure there is a paper gasket installed on each side.

Blower doesn't work

sounds as if this is a connection that isn't required on your model, the manufacturer uses the same wiring harness on many different models so to keep costs down , the connector/s not required are blanked off hence the plastic/bakelite covering

My harley sporter wont start i put in a new battery and i put new battery cables on it my cable is tight the only thing it does is click when i try to start it why.

You didn't say what year model Sportster you have but it sounds like your solenoid is bad. On the earlier model Sportsters, the solenoid is a separate unit. On the late models that have he Nippondenso type starter, the solenoid is built in. You can rebuild either type but the method you need to use is completely different depending on which style you have.

On the earlier models, you can take all the cables loose from the backside of the solenoid. There will be a nut on each of the connections on the backside of the solenoid, take these off as well. There are two bolts that hold the bakelite rear cover on the solenoid, remove these. Pull the bakelite rear cover off. A rebuild kit comes with a new cover and copper bolts. Replace these parts and reinstall the new bakelite cover. Be careful not to overtighten the two bolts and nuts as the bakelite cover cracks easily.

On the newer models, there is a 5-sided plate on the rear of the starter that is held on by three small 3mm bolts. Remove the bolts and take the plate off. There is a plunger and a spring inside, take these out. Look inside and you'll see two large copper contacts. New contacts come in a rebuild kit. Replace these contacts and reassemble the solenoid.

You can order the rebuild kit for the older Sportsters from aftermarket sources. The kit for the newer model is available from the dealer or aftermarket.

Good Luck
Steve

Just got a Sunbeam AT-W radiant toaster...works fine but bakelite control knob broke in shipment...any help on where I can find a repalcent?

I have a T-40 which is a bit different (a slider instead of a knob), but here's some pointers for repairing Bakelite:

Bakelite is one of the first man made plastics. It cures very hard and rigid in manufacture and is extremely heat resistant, but it can break like glass. It can therefore be successfully repaired with epoxy, if it is not exposed to high heat, provided it broke cleanly in two pieces and depending how it broke.

Use the best epoxy you can find, usually high strength, fresh, slow curing automotive epoxy is best for this application; just understand that epoxy will fail under high heat. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly before applying the epoxy and do not put the part back in service for week (it takes a much longer time to attain maximum strength than to set).

I don't know how or where to apply grease to my oster classic 76

The cover plate is the part with two screws that has the name and other info on it. If you remove the two screws and the plate, you will see a nylon part that moves the blade back and forth--that is the lever. The other end of the lever, with a hole in it, is connected to a metal part called the link. Both parts are easily removed by simply pulling them upward from the device. The bakelite gear is the part that the link sits on (the larger hole in the link). It too can be simply pulled up off the metal shaft that it rides upon (careful not to lose the washer under it). If you don’t have a tube of oster grease, a good white lithium grease is recommended in light application for the gear and the shafts (lever and gear shafts and armature gear and teeth of bakelite gear). Also, the bakelite gear shaft has a hole down its middle and two small holes that lead to the outside of the shaft. The shaft should be filled with grease so that grease can get through those small holes to lubicate the inside of the bakelite bearing. The small pads on each side of the lever (in the case) are oiled, not greased.
Oster clippers, by the way, are known for getting pretty warm. Oster blade wash will help with that, as well as oiling the blades.
Hope this helps you.

Griller on simpson harmony nova oven

In my experience, it is normal to leave the the door open when grilling, otherwise it is liable to cause the bakelite handle of the grilling pan to get very hot, and possibly melt or catch fire, and make it to hot to hold the handle.
Plz rate my solution.

Thanks.

Blades do not function

If the power lever (the tab that moves the blade back and forth) is not moving with the blade off, chances are that you have a stripped bakelite gear. Take the two screws out of the cover plate and remove it. Remove the lever. Remove the link (the metal part that the lever connects with). Remove the bakelite gear (the part that the link fits down over). You should then be able to see if the teeth are chewed or worn off to the point that the armature gear will not turn the bakelite gear. If that is the case, replace the gear. Amazon carries both single speed and 2 speed gears under Oster A5 clipper parts.
Good luck.

Oster Clipper Bakelite Gear Keeps Stripping

Your armature feed threads are most likely worn. This will continue to wear gears out unless the armature is replaced. Any Oster factory service center such as ourselves should be able to help. John, Shavers World. 313-534-0736

MAXIMUM WATTAGE FOR FAN LIGHTS??????

those bulbs are candelabra type. if they came with the fixture then I wouldn't go to a higher wattage bulb. the sockets are probably bakelite and mounted with the base up so any heat off the lamps would be directed upwards. higher wattage bulbs may shorten the lifespan of the sockets. bakelite is a modified plastic. it won't melt but it will get brittle.
