42PG20D - after running for 10 minutes loses picture quality, picture still barely visible

My LG 42PG20D, when first turned on picture and sound quality are excellent. After unit warms ( about 10 Min.) the picture quality is lost. picture is still visible on screen but very poor quality, like paint mixed into water, it appears that a component when warmed up is failing. if set is turned off and allowed to completely cool off, it starts with perfect picture again until it warms up then same problem . what item would you suggest is failing?

SOURCE: Invalid format

Try rechecking all wire connections for proper placement and fit too and from the tv.
Try adjusting the video format on the DVD, flip through 480p and 1080i. See which format works best with your tv. Do the same with Wii.

See if this helps.

SOURCE: LG32lc7d unit. When it is cool and you turn unit

It sounds to me like there's a few bad capacitors on the main power supply board, take the back off and look around for any electrolytic capacitors that have puffed out tops.

If this helps please give a positive feedback

I have a LG plasma TV. The picture won't come on but the sound does. It's a 52" model# 50pc50-ul. Production code 50pc50-ul AusYLSJR. Power 100-240v~50/60 Hz 4.5. Pcc ID: BEH50Pc5DUL.

This TV is 2007-2008 vintage. If you've had it this long without losing the picture, you've been lucky. Plasma and LCD panels are excited electrically to generate images, but they do not produce adequate light on their own to make the image visible. Thus, manufacturers install a backlight circuit which treats the LCD/Plasma panel much like a slide in a slide projector. When this backlight fails, you lose the visible image, even though the image is still on the panel. Older sets such as yours used florescent bulbs to light the screen. The use high-voltage inverters (ballast) that are the usual failure culprits. Newer sets use LED lighting. These use far less current and tend to last longer, but the jury is still out on their longevity as they are fairly new to the market. Inverters can be replaced, but be advised, as the florescent bulb ages, its color will change and it will affect image quality. So you may want to consider upgrading to a newer set.

I have a lg 32" tv and have connected everything

Dark picture means you have low brightness on the screen. Please increase the brightness. Also try increasing the back light intensity.

Check the quality of your oil. Coolant maybe leaking internally due to worn out head gasket.

Click noise...now picture is barely visible

A click means the power to the LCD has been shut off. Try resetting the TV, pull the AC plug, wait a minute then replug.

Picture went dark

This problem can be a bad YSUS or bad ZSUS and I recommend replacing both. The part #s are 6871QYH039B and 6871QZH044C. These parts can be found at Andrews or Vance Baldwin.

Compressed picture, staticky quieter sound

Sounds like you've got a vertical deflection problem causing the shrunk picture and finally a solid bright line. As to the loss in brightness you may be losing screen voltage to your picture tube. Probably it is time to shop for a new tv since cost of repairs may be too much. Stargazer
