When the computer first starts up, try tapping over and over the F2 key, or the Delete key. This will bring up the setup screen. Once you get into the setup screen, find the place where it lists all the devices for booting up the computer. Make sure you select the CD ROM as the first boot device. Save the changes, put the recovery CD in the drive, and let the computer start up. Follow the instructions on the screen carefully, and you should have no problems from there. After the operating system is installed, you will have to install all the drivers for your system.

You may have a virus. Scan the PC with a reliable antivirus. If you are unable to download one, get a friend to download one that can be run from a USB stick

When trying to start my computer emachinesE627, i have a black screen that says error loading operating system

The computer can not see the Operating System. This can be caused by several things, so I will just list a few possiblities for you here:

If you have a USB flash drive or external HD plugged into the PC. Remove it while the computer boots. Some machines are set to boot from a flash drive and will search for an operating system on it and display NO OS if the bios can not find one.

If the Hard drive has been removed or replaced recently then the Jumper settings may not be correct on the new drive.

If the computer was having trouble booting periodically, freezing or experiencing blue screens before this message, then you may have HD corruption or possible disk failure. With HD corruption you only need to run chkdisk /p within recovery console in XP or run the Vista recovery center with vista. HD failure is a dead disk, no option but to replace.

Bad RAM or a dead CMOS battery can also cause this type of failure. So check these also.

This can also be caused by a damaged master boot record or primary boot partition. Run fixboot or fixmbr from the recovery console on XP or just run the Vista Boot Repair Console in Vista

Worm Viruses and Rootkits that damage the primary boot sector or the Master Boot Record can also cause the OS to mysteriously disappear. So if none of the above sound like they are for you, then you can try looking for one of these on the affected drive.

Hope this helps,
Gill

Computer cant read drivers after isntalling new HD

Computer sounds fine, CD sounds dead! Try copying the drivers onto a new CD using another computer & try them in the laptop again. The drivers may be Vista-specific anyway, so try downloading XP drivers from Toshiba website.

I upgraded my computer from Windows XP to 64bit Vista. I have a PIXMA MX310 and I can print but the scan and fax will not load. Do you have a fix for this for a 64bit Vista? Thanks

Dude, upgrading to Vista was a bad decision. XP has been the best rated windows OS ever, so far. Vista is known for its issues and bugs. Today my high school teacher said that whenever he tries to access his hotmail account the computer freezes. First thing I asked, is it vista? guess what he said: yes. So I asked him if he was using Internet explorer, he said: yes. I said to download firefox and Safari and give those a shot, and if it doesn't work, buy an XP install disc and install that. Computers need lots of RAM and HD and a good Processor to run vista, so if its a vista bought machine, putting XP on it will make it like a super computer. If your buying a computer buy one thats running vista and head back to XP

Computer shut off

you have a hardware conflict or a bad power supply/MB. or a bad video card/driver. or a bad RAM chip. uninstall everything but one chip, one HDD and CDROM, and one video card. install the OS rom there... then add items until it becomes unstable. the last thing you installed is the bad boy.

Purchased computer model Elite 9070a have been well serviced with HP products this being 3rd HP computer we have purchased. However am very disalusioned with Vista program and wish to replace with windows...

You sound like you tried to install XP with Vista running - this will generate the message that you have received.

To install XP on your system, insert your XP disk into the computer and then restart it.

Select Boot From Disk during start up and this will lead you into the XP Installation.

Xp will not recognise Vista and will just overwrite it - deleting the current OS and formatting the C:\

Good luck.
