Some of the decks when first plugged in or powering up need time to get started. I'd wait then press the on button and see if it then turns on.

I get this message on my JA50ES when it has been unplugged or the power went off. It will say standby then you have to push the on button and then it works. I also have this situation with an older Sony Blue Ray Player. My newer Blu Ray comes on fast the older one has a similar situation...

Other possibilities are 510 is just wearing out... The 510 was great but it is an older model. Old units are not worth fixing should this be the case go for a 600 MD Deck (later model) or consider one of the ES Decks. (higher end).

SOURCE: MDS 503 STUCK IN STANDY MODE?

Is it an MDS-JE530? Do you have a minidisc in it? If yes, then unplug the unit. Slide the little switch from TIMER "OFF" to "PLAY", then plug the unit back in. After 10 seconds, it should turn on and start playing the minidisc. Let me know if that works or if we need to try something else, okay?

Not recording anymore

After you press the 'record' button the Minidisc unit is still in "pause mode" - you can hear the music and see the meters move, but notice that the time isn't moving until you press "Play" - then it will start recording. Is the time changing when you go to play it back? You might have left the MD in 'pause' perhaps?

Disc is stopped and ejected prematurely

I've never had this happen. I'd try another disc if it is OK it is probably the disc if not I fear the mechanism is getting worn out. Make certain your mechanism is clean I seldom use the cleaner discs but in this instance I would run it if the problem persists. Using the cleaning discs too often is not a good idea. I've used compressed air to blow out a hair from the mechanism which was messing with the laser in a similar cirsumstance.

I have a Sony MZ-M200. I want to transfer live recordings that I have made of my concerts on MD to CD. I can load the recordings into the computer. How do I then burn them onto a blank CD?

You would have to use the Sony MiniDisc software to burn them as a standard CD. A better solution is to buy an actual stand-alone stereo "CD Recorder" and go from the MiniDisc player to the CD Recorder and it will record directly, including track marks if you make it a digital dub! Check into getting a Phillips audio CD recorder, and Sony still makes a stand alone CD recorder as well.

Can I use an analogue input to a Philips DCC300 minidisk player and get a didital SPDIF output ? I want to use it as an analogue to digital convertor.

On the Sony MDS JE510, if you leave a disc out and just press REC, it does just that, analog in, digital and analog out with level adjust; I don't know if your Philips DCC recorder will do that or not though.

Sony MDS-JE520 Mini Disc Machine no operation, standby led is illuminated, but pressing on/off button it does not respond

This is from my own experiance. I inadvertedly bent the cover of my deck and had the same error.
The minidisc is blocked in the loading mechanism. Too much weight on top of the deck can bend the cover and the metal support which is above the loading sledge. The slider is then blocked. When you connect the power you can hear a motor trying to move for as short instant.
Disconnect the deck from the power supply.
Take of the cover and check if the support is bent. carefully bend it upwards, if so. Reconnect power and check if the deck powers up..

That's my solution which worked for me.

BTW I second Obertellis advice to find a MDS-JE780 (or MDS-JB980) they are the most complete decks ever made by Sony

How can i select auto pause on my player model je510 thanks

Inserting blank spaces while recording to tape (Auto Space)
The Auto Space Function inserts a 3-second blank space between each track while recording from MDs to tapes, allowing you to use the AMS function during later playback.
Press A.SPACE repeatedly until “A.SPACE” appears in
the display.
To cancel Auto Space
Press A.SPACE repeatedly until “A.SPACE” disappears.
Note
If the Auto Space Function is on while recording a selection containing multiple track numbers, (for example, a medley or symphony), blank spaces will be inserted within the selection whenever the track number changes.

Sony minidisc MDS-JE320 Clicking problem

Hi,

you seem yo have a problem with the disk positioning/insertion switch, the switch may have become misaligned or it has become intermittent. The switch is located on one of the circuit boards that is attached to the drive mechanics. It may not be easy to get to it without dissembling the entire player. You may want to download the service manual and have a look to see the placement of the switch. Here is a similar player service manual for your reference.

Hope this helps you.

Cheers
