It was very easy to do on my dryer. Kenmore 80. Removed 8-10 screws. Ordered a new element on Thursday afternoon from
http://www.pcappliancerepair.com/index.html, had new one Thursday morning at 9:00 am. Paid for shipping on 3-7 days got it less than 24 hours. Plus paid $10 less than Kenmore site.

SOURCE: Dryer runs but doesn't heat up when sttings call for heat.

You may need to do some troubleshooting. This can be done with the machine unplugged - you may have to activate the start switch, belt switch (if it has one) and the motor centrifugal switch manually.
Tip for troubleshooting 220v systems - clip one lead of a ohm meter to either L1 or L2 on the terminal block. It doesn't matter which one. According to the tech sheet (under console) follow the path for current from your clipped terminal, through the heating element, to the opposite terminal. All the readings should be less than 100 ohms, until you reach the failed part. Confirm failure by disconnecting a lead from the suspected part, and test only that part.

Live troubleshooting is sometimes slightly easier, but much more dangerous than the procedure described above. - It is definitely not recommended for beginners, or for professionals, if it can be avoided.

this kit mounts on the heater element chamber. The small one will be open. The big one failed also because it is rated to shut down @250°F. The little guy is rated at 300°F. NOTE: when this limit fails it is a sure sign of a blockage of lint somewhere.8e8a912.jpg

If all of the components are reading ok then you need a timer. Touch your 2 leads together. 0 ohms rght. That means you have a complete circuit. If you get the 0 reading then the element must be otay. Bad timer. Take that fancy meater of yours and atttach one of them leads to the timer leg marked RH. Yank the wire off the terminal beore you test. Move the timer around. You should get the famous 0 reading along the way. If you don't then that means you have the bad timer.

It doesn't necessarily mean the heating element is busted when an electric dryer stops heating. The heating circuit is not just composed solely by the heating element, it is composed by the thermal cut-off, high-limit thermostat, cycling thermostat, motor centrifugal switch, and the timer. The first thing to look at when an electric dryer stops heating is the thermal cut-off. It cuts power to the heating element when it blows most likely due to the failure of the high-limit thermostat. The thermal cut-off must be replaced, together with the high-limit thermostat, if found open. Click on the link below for the detailed instructions in troubleshooting this problem.

No heat

The thermal fuse is located on the blower housing while the thermal cut-off is located on the heater housing. If the dryer is electric, runs but doesn't heat, the thermal fuse is not the problem; otherwise the dryer will not run because the thermal fuse is wired in series with the motor and cuts power to the motor when it fails. The problem could the heating element, high-limit thermostat, thermal cut-off, or cycling thermostat. These components can be found in the blower housing and the heater housing depending on the model of the dryer. Specify the model number of the dryer for a more specific advice.

Kenmore Model 110.96585200 No heat!

You probably have a bad thermal cut-off . This is the small thermostat , located at the top of the element housing . This " thermostat " should read infinate resistance ( no resistance ) . You can put the 2 wires togather , and see if heat comes on . pt # 3399848 . Both thermostats , should read 0 resistance . They are normally closed . The thermal cut-off , will not reset itself , if open . This is a safety t-stat , for when dryer gets too hot , and will have to be replaced .

Electric dryer heat coil off mid cycle

You have 3 thermostats. By the description of the problem it sounds like it needs a new high limit thermostat. All 3 thermostats and the heating coil can be checked with an ohm meter. Also check the ground on the heating coil. It could be grounding it's self out.

Runs but no heat

most common cause of no heat is a blown thermal cutout, over temperature cuthout, thermal fuse (any of a dozen or more names for the same article
examine the exhaust vent ducting inside the dryer for screw on device that looks like this d7573a1.jpg or this 0874a9a.jpg, with wires on the terminals. they are not resettable but they are cheap. despite the large number of dryer models there are only a few cutouts, used in multiple dryers, the local parts guy will be able to match it easily.
test with battery annd bulb, or ohmmeter
conducts-good, no conduct- replace
if you havent disposed of them already, retain the heater and thermostat, they are probably good, and will make spares if the parts guy wont buy back the replacements
