Pressure gauge problem suunto observer

My watch shows an altitude of 28156 feet at the setting of 1013 hPa on the barometer setting - I can't get the right altitude. Also the temperature is showing as 225f which is clearly wrong. How do I fix this please?

SOURCE: Pressure gauge problem with Suunto Cobra 2

Salva,

The error in pressure is actually a "feature" of Suunto computers. Suunto is probably one of the most conservative brands out there, and many experienced divers tend to stay away from them for that very reason.

The manual actually calls out this "feature" on page 27.

The remaining air time calculation includes a 35 bar/500 psi safety reserve. This means
that when the instrument shows the air time to be zero, there is still about 35 bar/500 psi
of pressure left in your cylinder, depending on your air consumption rate.

Do you live somewhere significantly above sea level?

If not, check your personal altitude setting. It's explained on pages 20 and 23 of the manual.

SOURCE: Suunto Cobra Computer Console, battery replacement

Hey scuba2man, I have the same problem. Did you ever work out what was going on? My console didn't register any depth for first couple of dives (I had to turn it on every 5 mins to check air). Next couple of dives it told me I was between 98 and 103 metres deep (whatever that is in feet). I was at a maximum depth of 22m!!
I will let you know if I find solution. If not then I'll just get a new one!!!

Erik, the altimeter uses barometric pressure to determine changes in elevation. Rule one is whenever you know the elevation for a fact, adjust it as the barometer is changing often and therefore affecting the altimeter reading. The only sure way to avoid this is use GPS. Altitude is derived from locating 3 or 4 satellites in a geo syncrohnus(SP?) orbit. Pilots always reset the altimeter before take off and you should too. Find elevations on road signs, maps, etc.

I would like to hnow how to set my taylor barometer, my elevation is 850ft, but there is a small screw at the back that has to be set, could you help me?

Atmospheric pressure will vary day by day even though you know your altitude. Call your local weather station and ask for the current pressure. Then set the same pressure on your barometer. If theyare at a different allitude to you but within the same pressure area, you will have to calculate the press. diff for your altitude diff.

Altimeter setting creeps up on Suunto Vector

It sounds like IC (integrated Circuit) in your watch is mulfunctioning, but can be something else. Can't say without inspection.None of the readings mentioned by you is acceptable.
As the watch is purely microelectronic, there is nothing you can do but to take it back to the retailer and ask for repair or replacement. If your watch is just 10 days old, this must be done under warranty and at no cost to you.
Don't forget to rate, please.

Yes, Sir. But remember when pilots reset their altimeter with the local altitude, the pressure value matches the moment wheather pressure. It will be wrong anyway, if you reset you altitude, but the pressure readings are still wrong. Im my case it is happening. The altutide is correct but the pressure of the watch does not match the local pressure. It is 20 hpa over it. By the way, I am an airline pilot.
