a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

It may be the video card. But it is a laptop which means it is built into motherboard. SEND IT BACK! Make them. This would be a problem in the screen itself or the motherboard video card is wacked.

Partition and format the hard disk using the Windows XP Setup program
You can use the Windows XP Setup program to partition and format the hard disk. To do this, use the following steps:
Step 1: Partition the hard disk
Note If you are using the Windows XP Setup disks, insert each additional disk when you are prompted, and then press ENTER to continue after you insert each disk.
Note If you are using the Setup disks (six bootable disks), the setup prompts you to insert the Windows XP CD.
Note If you want to create a partition where one or more partitions already exist, you must first delete the existing partition or partitions, and then create the new partition. You can press D to delete an existing partition, and then press L (or press ENTER, and then press L if it is the System partition) to confirm that you want to delete the partition. Repeat this step for each existing partition that you want to include in the new partition. When all the partitions are deleted, select the remaining non-partitioned space, and then press C to create the new partition.
If you do not want to install Windows XP, press F3 two times to exit the Windows Setup program, and then do not follow the remaining steps in this article.
To format the partition without installing Windows XP, use a different utility.

Go to hp.com. Click on support and drivers tab. Select "See Support & Troubleshooting Information." Enter your laptop model number. dv6-1245dx. Click on "GO". See: "What Type Of Support Do You Need?" Choose MANUALS. Scroll down the page and select "HP PAVILION DV6 ENTERTAINMENT PC - MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE GUIDE". Download that PDF format. It is relatively easy to get to the ribbon cable that connects the touchpad to the motherboard. It is connected via a ZIF connector. I had a dv1331se and the touchpad stopped working. I just reseated the cable in the connector and all was well. Hope your solution is as easy as mine was. You'll have to remove the trimplate just in front of the keyboard. Be careful with the connectors there. The manual is well laid out and the diagrams easy to follow. Good luck. HP Pavilion dv6 Entertainment PC - Maintenance and Service Guide

Open the audio panel (settings -> control panel -> Sounds and audio devices -> volume). Check that the volume slide is all the way to the right. Also, click on the "speaker volume" button and check it is all the way to the right
