My tomtom was a gift this past christmas, and it has voice issues. it will work fine for a few minutes then the voice gets garbled, and then disappears altogether. From that point forward an audible clicking noise is heard until it is turned off. It continues to correctly show the map and directions, but without the voice. any suggestions?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

I hope you have TomTom home installed on your computer. If you already have it, then it is pretty simple. Else, follow this procedure.
1. Connect the USB cable to the TomTom.
(connecting this end is difficult, so connect this end before you power on. In fact, this is the only part I hate about a TomTom)
2. Switch on the TomTom.
3. Turn your computer on.
Once the booting of the computer is finished,
4. Connect the other end of the USB cable to your computer (note Tom should be on at this point of time)
5. wait a few seconds.
6. You computer will first install Tom and then ask you whether you want to install TomTom home software.
say yes and complete installation. (just follow the screen prompts)
7. Create a login (register) and password.
If you have already have all this done earlier.
follow this procedure.
Connect tom to your computer
open TomTom home software.
wait till it update and settle to the Tomtom home home interface page. It will say manage your Tom the easy way here on top.
And you will see a few buttons with: Add map, Add traffic, voices, safety camera etc.
click on Add traffic, voices, safety camera button.
On the page that opens,
Click on Point of interest button.
On the next page that opens, you will see a list of POIs.
The easy way to find what you want here is to use the box next to search.
Type in Home depot and click on search.
You will see list of Home depot locations.
I guess you are looking for Canada home depot locations. If yes, scroll down to Home depot Canada.
select it and click add.
Wait till that information is added to your Tom.
once finished close Tom home software
and safely remove your Tom from computer.
Switch off Tom.
switch on Tom.
Search for Home depot in your POI list.
This time around you will see you get one that is closer to you provided the latitude / longitude information is there in the list you downloaded. Most chances are that it will be there.
My Tom Tom XL was doing the same. After several minutes it would revert to a demo and you would have to tap the screen to make it disappear, but would come back a few minutes later. I spoke with Tomtom Customer service, and the guy on the phone told me i have to plug it into the computer, go into the tomtom from My Computer, and delete a folder names Scripts. After deleting the folder, it's now working perfectly.
This should fix your problem :)
if you need any help you can email me: email@example.com and i can talk you through.
This problem is due to the memory card not containing the TomTom application or map. To update the application onto the memory card, Connect the device to your computer. Open the TomTom Home application. Click on 'Update My Device'. This should then install the application onto the SD card. Alternativly, you could perform all the steps above without the SD card in the device, this will install the application onto the internal memory. Note: you may also need to install your maps, voices, etc after you update.
I to had this same problem. I just about pulled my hair out. The way I fixed mine was to use Tom Tom Home to operate the Tom Tom. It was able to get past the loop and finish the initial set up. I then unhooked it from the computer and it was working by itself.
I had the same problem and solved by accident:
use Tomtom Home>>Operate my device, beneth the simulated screen there is an option to "set current position", click it and manage to configure voice selection, choose any and go back.
unplug your tomtom and it should be working again
Hello megbert,I own a TomTom also. I have listed the procedures from TomTom Home and hope this will work. First try a soft reset (Reset button is located at the bottom of the TomTom device next to where the DC plug plugs in). Make sure your batteries are fully charged up or the USB cord is plugged in.
If your device is not starting up properly, follow the steps below:
If you have backed up your TomTom to your computer, then you can reinstall the TomTom application from your backed up data.*In rare cases, your TomTom device may not start correctly or may stop responding. If this happens, try resetting your device. A reset does not delete any data.
