SOURCE: Nikon L3 Lens wont extend

Hi:
If the camera has not been abused, such as dropping, impact of some sort, or restricting the extending lens, then there is an internal problem.
See my other posts on suggestions of selling it.

Hi Johan, this is a very common fault on all retractable lens cameras. I recommend that you follow the instructions in this link.

Ifthis fails then a professional repair will be the only option. Given the high residual value of your camera, I suggest that you avoid any of the fixing suggestions which are "all or nothing" (such as fix #7 in the link). Making the problem worse is going to increase the cost and may result in the camera being uneconomic to repair.

I hope that you manage to get your G9 working again, all that I ask in return is for you to rate my answer.

I had what sounds like the same problem. The camera was dropped and the shutter was stuck open. Just kept showing error message.
As I felt I had nothing to lose I began tapping it on a soft book and the shutter started to appear. I then shut it just using the end of my finger. When I then turned the camera on again it opened and shut when turned off. It has worked fine ever since.
Seems a rather poor design.
Hope this helps. Very best regards Peat.

A temporary fix to power up is to press the menu and power button at the same time. When the lens is extended and it beeps, on my camera , the lens is *stuck* Give it a gentle tug , then try the power button again

I found an online manual for your camera. Page 84 talks about the USB Mode Normal with the 4 dots underneath. It also show a troubleshooting area for this and it is on page 96. Hopefully this will get your camera working right again. Here is the link to the pdf manual. http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCW1.pdf

Turn camera on and it zooms all the way in

hi, i've an fx8. i had a problem 2 weeks ago. my objective didn't want to close when i switched the camera off. it remained open. when i switched the camera on again, the objetcive has closed and opened again, and remained in this position after switching it off. i tried some button combination, like menu button on, and power the camera on. it didn't work, but the second was the shotting button on, power on combination. an it worked, my camera did some kind of reset. it returned to the original position, and everithing is working since then. so try it.
