Yes, I was told to get mine below 7.0, and I'm 69, so it sounds OK.
If you want to know more ask your doctor for a HbA1c blood test. The doc will know what you mean. It is a sort of 3 month average blood glucose reading, which is more meaningful.

A fasting test should be under 6 mmol / L, and ideally between 4 and 5.
A single reading does not say much however as blood glucose does vary a lot hrough the day.
If you would like to know more, ask your doctor for a HbA1c blood test. This is a sort of 12 weeks average reading, and will tell a lot more.
