SOURCE: Rheem water heater turns off by its self

Flashing code 76 is lost communication between the remote and the burner control assembly CCA (circuit card assembly). The CCA is still under warranty if purchased within the last 3 yrs. Contact Rheem customer service and have your Mod. and S/N available....explain to the agent you are recieving - flashing code 76...they'll walk you through the process.

Check igniter wiring harness for damage.

SOURCE: I have a Rheem EcoSense tankless water heater that

1) The best place to find this information in your manual.
Typical Rheem manual in my files shows temperature is adjusted by pressing UP and DOWN temperature buttons on remote.

2) Manual says: Temperatures of up to 140°F
(60°C) for Light duty models and up to 180°F
(82°C) for Heavy Duty models can be
achieved with the MAIN (UMC-117) remote
control and a dip switch adjustment. Only
qualified service personnel should perform
this adjustment. Only factory authorized
remote control(s) should be used.

3) Typical manual shows information on page 22-23. Search pdf for 'temp'
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Rheem-RTG74IndoorOutdoor_owners.pdf

4) This information squares with what I heard before that trained service technician is needed to adjust water temperature.
I think Rheem does this since tankless will not achieve that rise in temperature if incoming water is cold.
BTUs put out by tankless burner has limit.
If incoming water is colder than certain temperature, then tankless cannot raise temperature quick enough as water passes through burner.

5) You might also need a tempering tank, to modify cold water in winter:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Tempering-tank.html

6) Suggest you also read the yearly maintenance required for tankless.
For example tankless are prone to lime build up and need to be de-limed each year with vinegar.
Lime build up will certainly affect water temperature.

I am getting a C2 11 code on my eco sense tankless water heater. There is also a flashing 24, any ideas? Thanks

Multiple error codes can mean PC board failure.
C2 11 is no ignition.
Error 24 is malfunction of operational switch: "press max or mim button on PC board, or replace PC board." On some models, max and mim button can be located just above dip switches, and rotates with screwdriver. See diagram in manual.

I have a Rheem PTG-74XP tankless. I had the same code 12, low/inconsistant gas problem (assumption). In my case the gas (propane) pressure coming in was fine, the reason the flame rods/electrodes would not burn correctly was residue on/in them. It hasn't happened since they were cleaned. Hope this helps, dj :)

Our water heater (model # PTG-74PVP-2) is flashin C7 76. THe water is cold. If we turn it off and back on it is hot for a while but then turns off again. We can't find our manual. WHat does this mean?

I have a Rheem PTG-74XP tankless. When the water was turned on the unit would engage briefly then turn off. After (much) troubleshooting, it turned out to be caused by a decrease in the flow of gas (propane in my case). The cover panel had to be removed and the flame rod/electrodes had to be cleaned. I did call for a service tech to do this but in retrospect I probably could have researched enough online to do it myself. The other possibility reported to me (and in my case not the prob) was a lack of consistant pressure from the gas source. Good luck!

try cleaning your spark rod inside the unit and the other rod next to the spark rod on the side of the unit. Takagi use a emery cloth, rheem brass brush, noritz a emery cloth. but make sure that both of the rods that are in the flame chamber are very clean. It miss reading because of build up on the rods.
