What kind of extension cord is safe to use with this freezer?

Freezer manufacturers do not recommend use of extension cords.

Replace burnt power cable

You can replace it with the average extension cord as most can hold up to 12 amps and your freezer will pull 2-5. Just cut the extension cord to length and cut before where the wires are burnt out. Strip wires and connect black to black, white to white and green to green. Marrett each section of wires and plug it in. If you use electrical tape to make a bundle with the Marretts afterwards that will make sure there is less of a chance the Marretts will fall off.

good luck

Need to replace my power cord on my stand alone freezer made by Kenmore...

Remove the cover to the plug and cord. Detach wires and install new one. Should not be very difficult. Insure wires are secure and screws back in place.

I have a kenmore 23041 and the condenser keeps kicking off and on and will not stay cool. Whats the problem?

Let me give you a little check list. Is the freezer on an extension cord? Sometimes the cord degrades and doesnt want to carry the current needed to run the compressor. If the cord is too small the damage to the compressor is usually fatal causing the windings to burn open or become to weak to start. Is the outside of the freezer open enough to allow air to flow freely around the cabinet? Is the freezer in a hot area? Is the door gasket in good shape and not torn or missing? Did you just get this freezer? If you laid it on its back it could have loaded up with compressor oil on the head and locked it up. As a last resort you might unplug the freezer, remove the compressor terminal cover and look for a burnt or loose wire. These compressors are fractional horsepower with very low torque to get them started and it really doesnt take much to cause them to cycle on their overload protectors. I wish I could offer more hope. Good luck hope this helps.

Frigidaire freezer has ice accumulating and not freezing properly. Ice cream will not freeze.

Try turning the temperature control to off, unplug the electrical power cord from the power outlet, defrost the appliance, clean the condenser, plug the power cord into an electrical outlet, set the temperature control to a low setting, lay a thermometer in the freezer for a few hours and see what happens to the temperature in the machine.
Check the integrity of the seal of the door gasket by seeing how the door seal will hold a slip of paper in various locations along the freezer door gasket. A loose hold on the slip of paper shows an area where hot moist air can get into the freezer and cause ice build up.

I have cut plug off to fit another type plug, how do I identify Neg & Pos wire

I dont recommend the refrigerator repair you are performing, as you are altering how it is designed to receive power. Furthermore, there is no negative and positive wiring on a 120 v A/C circuit, only hot and neutral. That being said, on a typical two wire cord, the hot lead is usually the ribbed side. On a three wire cord, the ground usually runs along the center.

Electrical shock everytime I touch the metal..

The problem is simple, the solutiion is difficult. There is a direct short somewhere in the system. If you remove the bottom front grill, you will see where the electricity comes into the unit. From that point forward a bare hot wire is touching the frame of the freezer. If you have a continuety tester, you may be able to find the problem with the power off. This is a time consuming situation and if you are not familiar with electrical circuits, it may be beyond what you are willing to tackle. You will have to isolate each circuit to determine which circuit has the short. One place to start is with the power cord itself. If you have continuety between the ground wire and either of the two hot wires, if 220 volt unit, the problem may be in the cord. If not continue to check the circuits from hot wire to ground. You may be able to disconnect the light circuit from the main power supply to see if the short is there. I have traced shorts for hours before finding a burned wire. Good luck.

Used extension cord on freezer then it stopped getting cold.

never use a extension cord unless it is of a larger gauge wire size eg: #12. as opposed to standard #16 or #14. the compressor/motor will not get needed power and burns out.

Freezer not working

Hi,
  • Make sure the freezer is plugged in
  • Check for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker
  • Test the power outlet for voltage
  • Inspect the electrical cord for damage
  • Eliminate use of an extension cord, if any is being used
  • Check the outage votageIf power is reaching the electrical outlet, trace the freezer wiring and test components as you go. Either there is a short, which must be located and repaired, or the freezer has sustained electrical damage.
Thanks.
