Im getting quit duplicate error #196 on my settlement and can not close

It sounds like your TroutD has somehow gotten out of synch with the last processed transactions. Usually, you can go to setup -> numbers and synchronize the TroutD to the last number used. This will usually correct the issue.

This problem could have multiple causes. It sounds like you are receiving a settlement error, which are specific to each merchant services provider. You will have to call the merchant services provider so that they can look up the error message on their end and tell you what is causing the error. For example, the error message that you would receive if you use First Data would be different than the message you would get if you used Bank of America. Your terminal will not let you run any more cards until you resolve the settlement error. This is to prevent you from continuing to run cards in a corrupted batch, or a duplicate batch.

When i try and open pccharge i get a invaled null and when i hit ok it closes out what can i do to fix it?


Invalid null refers to a database issue with the one of the fields in the database, or that one of the files being loaded when PCCharge starts. I'm guessing that you are probably getting an error 91 before comes up, then an "invalid use of null". Typically this indicative of windows not being up to date. The best solution for this would be to download the latest Microsoft Runtime Library.

This can be found by going to microsoft.com and searching for the phrase 'windows script'.

What this does is updates your system so that the newest components can "talk" to the database and the file that are being loaded when PCCharge runs.

The amex card not read by machine. it shows on the screen:- settlement failed...


ANY card swiped when machine returns settlement failed error will probably return the same error. It's not the card - it's the batch stuck inside the machine. Whether manual batch or autobatch, sometimes the data IS actually transferred completely out of the machine but somehow the machine doesn't get that message from the backend server that settlement was completed *settlement failed* , there may have been some corrupted files, or maybe the settlement really did fail and is stuck and needs to be settled/batched out/transmitted to free up that terminal. Try simply settling that machine - press the down arrow (far left purple function key) ; press F2 Settlement and follow prompts.

Hello I use verifone PCCharge, when I turn it on , an error message pops : "Password backup update failed.Shutting down PCCharge payment server"


PCCharge uses Access database, which is stored in .mdb file. Locate this file. Mine was in C:\Program Files\PCCW\PCCW.mdb.

- Back up this file.

- In the same folder where you found the database, there should be a program called VISDATA.exe. Double click on it to start it.

- Go to File > Repair Database, and point it to your database file (pccw.mdb).

- It will ask you if you want to open db, say no.

- Go to File > Compact Database, and point it to your database file.

- It will ask you if you want to compact to 2.0 or 7.0. I was told to use 2.0.

- It will ask you if you want to replace database, say yes.

- For encrypt, choose No.

- For open, say No.

- Close VISDATA.exe

- Try running PC Charge now.

- If it still gives you trouble, and if you don't mind losing all your history, move the pccw.mdb file out of PC Charge folder (C:\Program Files\PCCW\). Keep it somewhere else for backup, just get it out of PC Charge folder. Now, start PC Charge again. A new database will be created.

Error 3343 when I start PC Charge, how can I fix this?


error 3343 is a database error. Unfortunately, PCCharge is still in the stone-ages of computer technology and they think VB6.0 and MS Access 2.0 are stable and secure ... At any rate. 3343 is simply an unrecognizable database, in this case due to corruption. There is a program in the PCCharge directory called VisData. This will allow you to run a repair and compact the database. To use:
First make a backup of your PCCW.MDB database in your PCCharge directory (C:\Program Files\Active-Charge (PaymentServer); C:\Program
Files\PCCW (PRO)).

Execute VISDATA.exe.
File -> Repair MDB.
Select the PCCW.MDB database from your PCCharge directory.
Select 'No" to open Repaired Database.
File -> Compact MDB ... 2.0 MDB
Again, Select the PCCW.MDB
It will then prompt for what you want the database to be named. Simply select PCCW.MDB again, select 'YES' to replace existing database.
Select 'NO' to encrypt database.
Select 'NO' to Open Compacted database
Exit Visdata and start PCCharge.

It would also be a good idea to go ahead and update to the latest available Scripting Runtime library. This can be found by going to microsoft.com and searching for the phrase 'windows script'. (To my knowledge, 5.7 is the latest version).

Phantom Transactions on PCCharge


One it is most likely you are getting communications errors while Pc Charge is dialing out which I am assuming you are using DIAL up.
You need to upgrade to Version 5.7.1 or above and then use dial or highspeed connection.

When the software dials out to the bank for approval while that process is going on your communication drops and then PC Charge will have no way of recording the Approval back. So in turn you are running it again where the approval for the first sal e was already done but the response was not captured. Your bank can put duplicate trans stops on the front end. Make sure you upgrade to the newest version.

Unable to print receipts after reinstalling software


Usually when you copy from one system to another, you also need to copy credit.pcc and config.pcc. The config holds various settings for hardware and such, and the credit holds the account information and indexing for multiple merchant accounts. If you are using a newer version of pcc, I would also copy over the mds.pcc, as this holds info for cashiers and more importantly, passwords.
