Question about Craftsman Garden

Open Question

Why does my mower die shortly after starting, keep it running with the choke but not very well. Seems like once it warms up it shuts down, no power

Every time i start the mower it starts falling on its face, will not run right, choke will keep it running barely but then it just wants to shut down, checked spark plug its firing well, fuel filter has been changed.

I have a Scotts _ John Deere law mower tractor model S2048-S2554 Serial number 020-001, the engine runs but sounds like it is going to die or it needs air --- it runs unnevenly

SOURCE: mtd riding mower model 678, dumped gas, replaced

Crack the gas cap and see if this fixes it. If it does, clean the pinhole vent in the fuel cap. A vacuum on the fuel tank would explain your symptoms.

SOURCE: Mower will not start

Sounds like your Carburator could be clogged up. SPray some starter fluid into your filer or carburator and see if the engine doesn't run for a couple of seconds. If it does your carb is most likely the problem

Check your magneto. I have had them cease to function whenever they would get hot. When cooled down, they would work.

19 hp kawasaki mower motor that dies after operating 45 minutes

well its back to the fule flow,,,i thing the fule lines and carb are blocked up and needs a strip down and a good clean up of all the jets and flote bole this sounds like fule shortage,,,if the engine is only just turning and you try to put it in gear so the cutters start to turn it loads the engine up and it stops!
you say pulling the choke out get it going!!!!! then its short of fule ,,,right!

Motor starts and runs good till it warms up then as it warms up shuts down and wont restart till it cools back down

2 things to check are the ignition spark immediately after this shutdown, which would indicate a faulty coil, and loosen the gas cap to see if a vacuum is being pulled on the tank due to a faulty vent, which would prevent fuel from entering the carburetor, but chances are, on a riding mower this is either a faulty ignition coil or a fuel system issue. The best way to tell if it is a fuel system issue is to apply the choke as it begins to die and if it is running out of fuel it will pick back up for a little longer. If no change when the choke is applied then check the spark at the plug(s).

Have a 19.5 hp briggs, will only run eith choke closed, and will die when warm up

Here are a couple of things to look at with your briggs...the fuel pump and the electric fuel shut-off on the bottom of the carburetor. Both can cause issues where you need to run the choke partially to keep it running. www.nnyparts.com

JD L120 riding mower keeps dying on me

Loosen fuel cap 1 turn to see if it will stay running.Theres a tank breather hole/vent in the cap and when it becomes plugged no air can get into fuel tank when fuel is used, can also be a plugged fuel filter.

Lawn mower stays running on jumper cables but once disconnected it shuts down when choke is engaged

if it is already running and you "engage" the choke, you will flood the engine with too much gas and it will sputter and die. the only time you engage the choke is to start the engine when it is cold. if the mower dies when you remove jumper cables, and you leave the choke alone, you need to have someone look at your charging system.

It starts but in choke and when i turn it to start it turns off

Try keeping it at half choke for long enough time to completely warm up. Once you have warmed it up, put it on "run". If it still dies out, get back to FIXYA. Good luck...Lee

MOWER RUNS FIVE MINUTES THEN STOP AFTER IT WARMS UP

Check your automatic choke ... a cold mower needs more choke, and the auto-choke should release when the motor warms and runs smoothly. If the choke is sticking, the motor will die when it gets warmed up, then start again after it cools down.
