This sounds like you have a problem with your pilot. You can check this with a small mirror to see if their is a spark when you turn it on. If you have any soot build up on the pilot that will stop the spark and keep it from lighting also. If you have a short on your pilot wire this could be the problem also. I hope this helps, good luck.

SOURCE: purex triton powermax 400-
This is usually either the Thermal Overload Cutoff (an inline fuse to prevent overheating) which costs $13.50 through poolcenter.com, or it is that you are not getting enough water pressure through the heater. There are sensors that will shut down the heater if there is not enough water flow. Is your filter clean so enough pressure/flow is happening?

SOURCE: heater cycles on / off
This could be a water flo problem. you need to chech to be sure your by-pass valve is closed down enough to force water threw heater, There is a internal by-pass that could be a problem also, or a bad pressure switch. If the by-pass isn't the problem then you should check these also.

SOURCE: I have a Pentair Pueex
I am not real familiar with this brand of heater. But they are all pretty standard. You will have either a pilot light or and electronic igniter. I would start by checking to make sure that the pilot light is lit. If it will not stay lit then you will have to replace the thermal couple that the pilot lights heats. If you have a electronic igniter, then make sure it is sparking properly. If it is not sparking the heater will not light. That should give you a place to start.
