Re: partitioning my book
If you are using Win XP or Windows 2000, you can use the disk management console. Click on windows "start" then click on "Run". type "diskmgmt.msc" and click the "OK" button. this will start the disk management console.

1. First try to use another usb cable. If it still won't work. 2. Try plugging it into another computer. If it still won't work. 3. Try removing the hard drive from your BOOK HARD DRIVE, and plugging it directly to your computers desktop SATA socket using a SATA cable. If it works, backup all the data of your BOOK HARD DRIVE and then delete the partition and make a new partition and then format it.
Form my experience it's a early sign of any issue in Hard Disk circuit. It'll be best if take backup of your data and take the hard disk to a hardware technician as early as possible. Otherwise you may loose your data.
Note that your drive is too big to be formatted as a single 2TB FAT32 partition, its basically too big for PS3 usage.
but I think we should be able to get it to work.
You need to create one big partition off the drive, you can do that by connecting the drive first to your computer and then, right click on my computer or computer and select manage. Then on the right side of the computer management window you need to click on Disk management.
On the right side you need to find your 2TB externall hard drive, delete all the partitions from it so that its entirely free space or unpartitioned space, then create a new volume, full size of the drive, do not format it, if it doesn't let you pass without formatting then make sure its on quick format and fat32.
It's not clear which operating system you're using and whether you deleted the partition or not.
What you can do is reformat the drive (only do this if you want to start the drive fresh and remove all data from it), which is done in disk management, if your drive isn't coming up in my computer. To open disk management, click on Start > Run > type 'diskmgmt.msc'. Once you have got disk management opened, you need to locate the drive there (be careful however, as you do not want to select the wrong drive and remove all it's contents). Once you have found the drive, at the bottom of the window and if it has a black bar, you will need to partition it. If it has a blue bar, then you may have a different problem and I would then suggest posting an update on what you see there.
To partition the drive: Right Click on the black bar for the my book elite (hint: if this is the only drive you have which is 1TB, then you would most likely see 931.30 GB of free space) > Click 'new partition' > click 'next' > check 'primary partition' and then click 'next' > leave the size as is and click 'next' > assign a drive letter (you may leave this one with the option it gives you) and click 'next' > check 'format this partition with the following settings:' > filing system = NTFS (NB: NTFS will not work with MAC) > Allocation unit size = default > volume label = rename this as you please > make sure quick format is checked and select 'next' > click 'finish'. The process normally takes around a minute and then your drive will appear in my computer.
Try using a recovery utility like Acronis or R-Studio. I have used R-Studio alot and it always comes through for me. The drive will be recognised but no drive letter will be assigned. Run the programme and after it scans the drive, select what you want to save and save it to another drive or partition. That should do it.
