Question about Simrad GPS

Open Question

Simrad cx34 I am getting 'bearing zero alarm' and 'bearing pulse alarm' although scanner turns. Some adjustment off the place? Radar at mast and does not start properly after the winter. Scanner model RB714. Any idea of where the fault is?

Some cable test stuff
Remove the cable from the display, leave the dome connected
I thought the cable end had pin numbers but let me know if it doesn't,
the video pins are 1 and 2 which are located
either side of the key slot
Video pins 1 & 2 resistance 46 Kohms colors 1 white signal, 2
black return
Azimuth 12 &13 resistance 10 Kohms colors 12 purple azimuth +
, 13 grey azimuth -
Trigger 4 & 7 resistance 10 Kohms colors 4 orange trigger
+ ,7 yellow trigger -
Data I/O 6 & 10 resistance 160 Kohms colors 6 green data + , 10
blue data -
Approx. +/- 5 ohms tolerance.
Below is a pin chart of the display connector
key
2 1
5 4 3
8 7 6
11 10 9
13 12
Other pins on display connector
Battery - pins 3 & 5 both black
Battery + pins 9 & 11 both red
Shield pin 8
Dome connections
Video pin 8 white
Video rtn pin 7 black
Trigger + pin 6 orange
Trigger - pin 5 yellow
Data + pin 4 green
Data- pin 3 blue
Azimuth+ pin 2 purple
Azimuth - pin 1 grey
Battery + red
red
Battery - Black
Black
There was a note that some cables only have one set of battery
connections pins 5 & 9
Battery connections on 3 & 11 not present on all cables. You should
have the doubled power wires with the 4KW unit.
If the test results did not have the correct ohms then they said to
check it at the dome
If the dome checked ok, then the cable was bad, and to continuity check
the cable to confirm
a bad cable

SOURCE: JRC 1000 MKII bearing pulse error on receiver

Normally the bearing pulse comes from the bearing pulse generator built inside the motor. Every time the motor turns it sends a pulse down the line showing the radar that it is indeed spinning. There is also a Heading pulse that comes from an electric eye elsewhere in the housing. The other thing could be that the wire carrying the bearing pulse is not getting back to the display. More so than often, it's the motor. I would have the display sent out to be checked on a simulator if there is a marine electronicshop nearby.

More than likely your motor is going bad. Inside the motor is your bearing pulse generator. Replace the motor and you should be ok.

What is pop radar

When radar detectors proved easily capable of sniffing out radar from miles away, radar gun manufacturers responded by producing instant-on radar or unoffically called "Pulse" radar. In the instant-on mode, the radar's transmitter is placed on hold, ready to fire but not yet producing a signal for detectors to hear. The officer waits until his target is very close (brings a new meaning to "wait till you see the whites of their eyes") then releases the radar from stand by mode and gets a speed reading within a second or so (pulse). In this situation, no detector offers much warning.
There are guns out there that operate just like the instant-on guns of the past but with a very tough twist - POPTM mode! This gun is a normal K and Ka band radar gun detectable by most radar detectors made in the past 30 years, until this gun is placed in POP mode. When the gun is in POP™ Mode and activated, a brief burst of energy, less than 1/15 of a second, is transmitted and the vehicle's speed is quickly acquired. A detector without POP™ Mode detection capability cannot respond to this brief transmission.
TIP - When traveling in unfamiliar highways always try to find a vehicle which is traveling at the same rate or faster than you are and keep several car lengths behind them. This way the other vehicle can "flush out the radar".

JRC Radar Scanner when rotating is noisy inside the scanner base.

There is a seal on the antenna scanner shaft, just below the seal there are two bearings, thou the antenna are enclossed moisture still get inside and get to these bearings. Try and get a small amount of wd40 on the bearings, if not, you will soon begin to see false echoes on the screen because the motor on the scanner or antenna will begin to work harder causing a drag causing these echoes. Good luck.

Goes off frequently with no radar nearby

False alarms are common with most radar detectors. You may need to adjust your detector's settings to compensate for the interference that sets off the alarm. Check your user's manual for instructions on using the menu.

No radar target images

Sounds like your video cable inside your radar cable. Also brings your Gain back to zero, STC back to Zero and rain back to zero. Next increase your gain until you see a picture. If none of that is working, check your cable then finally call a dealer.

Error BZ

This is a bearing pulse error. Either the bearing pulse generator inside the motor is bad (Replace the motor) or it's in the radar cable or display.

Furuno 1623 Radar reading "no heading pulse"

The messages “NO HEADING PULSE” and “NO BEARING PULSE” means that the display is not communicating with the scanner (antenna). Both of these signals are generated in the scanner if you get this error check that the antenna cable is firmly connected and that the contacts are clean and corrosion free.

If the connection at the display looks good and feels like it’s properly connected, check the cable for any damage If you find damage you could try to repair the wires BUT (because of corrosion and moisture problems) IT IS STRONGLY REMENDED that the cable be replaced, but it’s kind of expensive $275.00.

The Part number is 000-130-034. Depending on the marine shops in your area they may have it in stock (or they can order one) but you can get it directly from Furuno at;

I hope it’s just a loose connection. Good luck!
