Will a bad power supply board damage a new main board in an led TV?

You can try that without any repercussions except the cost. You need to remember that the LED board has a feedback from the main board that controls the brightness. It would be a good idea to get a schematic and other things before you try this,

New to me (used) Ambition 1.0 skipping stitches when in free motion with feed dogs down and sewing in a backwards direction (stitches fine when going forward or even sideways).

You have to be more slow and even speed. The main thing is to not pull on the thread. The top and bottom thread have to work together in order to sew. Try to practice in a forward motion and then backwards. Make sure that you have the right pressure foot being used.

Feed dogs pushing fabric in reverse

Check that the quick reverse button is not jammed-in, first. If not, check a pattern that uses forward and backward feed, such as the honeycomb stitch and check if varying the stitch length makes any difference - if its still only feeding in a reverse direction, you're probably going to have to get it checked-out by a Bernina service agent, because this could be one of a number of problems, ranging from the simplest - the plug carrying the wiring to the stitch length stepper motor might have dropped-off the main 'S'-print control board - to the worst - the main control board might be faulty. The stepper motor could also be faulty or, indeed, there might be a jammed stitch-length mechanism in the free-arm, if it hasn't been serviced for a while. Good Luck

Will only Sew in reverse.

Could be several things -- motor hooked up backwards, reverse is stuck, etc. Is there a Reverse on the machine? If so, what happens when you activate the reverse. If it then sews forward I would say someone hooked the motor backwards. If there is no change, it would be a problem with the feeding motor or the circuit board. Suggest taking to a reputable service center for analysis. Good luck.

Troubleshooting main board.

Three things to look for in service with LCD monitors,
1 bad capacitors
2 Bad transistors for the back light feeds
3 bad ic pulse chips for the Non function circuit
you will not find schematics unless you peruse the patent office records, reverse engineer the circuits and you will have a schematic
when the main chip fails on the vga board its time to buy a new vga video board,
sounds like your board may be suffering a bad IC telling the main chip the power is OK

let me know how it goes.
