Well, first the easy bit... the pulsation is caused by the leak, because the machine can't hold pressure when the trigger is released.  The difficult bit is: what to do about it?  Unfortunately, there are several different places where the leak can occur and, even with the cover off, it's usually impossible to be sure exactly where the water's coming from.  In the repair shop where I work, we almost always replace every part that might be causing trouble without even trying to identify the exact source.  To do otherwise will rack the labour costs up so high as to render the job uneconomic.  We reckon that if you can't complete the job in 45 minutes it's not worth it.  Sad really, but such are the realities of our economics.
Anyway, unless you are a really competent handy-person, this is probably a job you won't want to tackle for yourself.  So your choice is either to live with it (and do whatever you can to limit the pulsating time - keep it working or switch it off immediately) or take it to a repair shop.  If you are in the UK, Karcher head office can direct you to a repairer, and I guess the same applies in many other countries too.
If you do want to have a go at it yourself, post another message here and I'll give you as much guidance as I can (but there will be a limit to the amount of detail I can provide, as I can't get in to writing a complete service manual!).

Please provide more info on a DIY repair. I have the same problem with my Karcher 4.68. It has a similar pulsation sound, with a leak, and when the trigger is pressed it sprays, but with lower pressure than normal. Secondly, where are these spares available? Do we get them from Karcher, or are these generic spares?

You did winterize the machine? Leaving water in a powerwasher will freeze and damage the pump. It's a common happening, because people don't think of it or are not told by the maker.

Karcher K2.36 motor cut out and won't restart

Yes, the water should be turned on first but if it only ran for a minute or two it should be OK. Most late model pressure washers have an automatic shutoff when the trigger on the wand is released. Turn on the water and then the machine and then squeeze the trigger on the handle of the wand and the motor should start as soon as the air is cleared from the line by the flowing water (about 10 seconds). If the unit was put away wet last season you may need to clean the nozzle with a piece of wire too.

Pulsating when idle

The motor doesn't pulsate when you are spraying and pulsattes when not spraying is normal otherwise the pressure will just keep building and burn out the pump. However, if you are not using the sprayer right away then the unit should be shut off until your ready to start again.
I hope the answer is helpful, please rate if the answer has helped in any way. Good Luck and have a great weekend.

I have a K3 78M electric unit . The motor pulsates

This sounds like an internal leak. If you are handy enough here is a schematic. On B@ it could be #25 is sticking or the valve inside #8 is leaking or the water seals #18 need replacing or #1 is leaking

These units have pressure valves that automatically turn off the pump once the pressure is high enough. The pressure switches do fail and sometimes stick and act as you've described.

A FRIEND HAS LENT ME THIS WASHER, BUT HAS T GOT A MANUAL

Best to run hose for a minute before connecting to machine to clear any debris from hose, plug hose to machine and pull trigger to run water through, plug into power and away you go, when trigger not pulled unit goes into bypass mode, it is advised to not leave in bypass for more than about 5 minutes, this model is light and can easly be over heated so I would advise to switch off at machine and run water through every 20 minutes to half an hour for at least a couple of minutes, after you have finised using unit, switch off at machine, disconect water and power then squeeze trigger to release pressure from pump.
