I have fire at coil but no fire through sparkplug wires

The problem sounds like it is your distributor. Replace the ignition points and condenser, make sure the points are gapped properly. If you still don't get fire at the plugs, change the distributor cap, rotor, and wires. Points and condenser kit runs $9.72.

On a 1949 ford 8n, do you set the gap on the bottom of the lobe or the highpoint of the lobe?

The MOST gap at the high point of the "BUMP" of the lobe should be the most that the points will open.
.016 " Be sure the points CLOSE,also.

Won't start !! converted to 12v ,new starter and solenoid installed along with new coil, points, roto cap now no spark to plugs

Cranks? Check voltage to + side of coil, first. 10 V. OK.
Be sure that points open and close.SEE it as it cranks.
Points gap should be around .016 "
If you open and close the points, key on,engine off,the coil should SPARK!
Use a screwdriver to get a shock. Fun.
The coil will spark when you short the points, when they are open.

Ford 9N problems; Changed plugs, wires, cap, rotor, points, and ignition coil. Point gap at .015, new condensor. 6 V battery fully charged. No voltage drop to ignition coil. Results, no spark.

You might check ground. some of these units were ground positive. did you switch the posts? This would cause problems since the electrons are on the inside of the condinser.
Good luck

Have new plugs, wires, cap, coil, rotor points, condensor. Still no spark

Check for power getting to the center top connection at the coil.
Are the points opening?
Are they fully closing?
Check for a grounded connection/wire in the dist?
Be very careful how you set the coil onto the dist.
