My brake lights do not work on my 1991 Mitsubishi Montero

My suspicion is brake light switch has gone bad. It's located just above brake pedal below dash. (small plastic switch with a couple of wires - pretty simple fix)

My tail lights work just fine but my brake light will not light up when my brakes are being used, is it a fuse issue or wiring? 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS

Could be the brake light switch that is activated when you push the brake pedal. It is usually located by the brake pedal. When the pedal is up it pushes the switch in, no power to brake light. W HEN YOU PRESS PEDAL, SWITHCH BUTTON COMES OUT SENDING POWER TO BRAKE LIGHTS. CHECK THIS SWITCH FIRST.

Replaced the brake switch on a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero Sport and the cruise control won't work

Recheck your brake switch connections. The cruise control as we both kow is shut off when the brake is tapped or depressed. If the wires are connected properly there is the p;ossibility that the brak light switch is out of adjustment. Walk behind the car an see if the brake lights are always on. If they are always on move the plunger further away from the brake pedal actuation arm by adjusting the lock nuts on the plunger stem so that the stem retracts away from the pedal arm.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Brake lights on 91 montero work only with headlights

Check the ground to the back tail lights, the ground may be poor and when the lights are on and may draw through the running lamps or vise-versa. Inspect the bulb connections and using a multi-meter or inspection light check for 12V DC at the terminals. Have a friend pump the brake pedal to check the brake lights to be certain the switch is ok (the switch is actuated by the brake pedal just under the dash)

I hope this may have assited you,

Montero SUV - squeaky noise when brake pedal is pushed while engine is idling.

this could be 1 of 2 things either you have a vacuum leak and youre hearing a hissing noise or get under the dash with a can of spray lubricant and locate your brake pedal and all its connecting point and spray them down do it until you are satisfied there is no more noise. cheers
