Hi Tim, Sounds like you got it figured out! The only question I see is if there is a quick fix, and it looks like you answered your own question. You can certainly pursue requesting that it be fixed as a manufacturing defect/ faulty part, or even a safety hazard as that is your right. While I can not suggest you take that route, the old metaphor of the sparking trigger that melted in my hand always seemed to get a lot of attention. Good Luck to you, hope this Fixsya!

SOURCE: Ryobi impact drill compatibility with normal drill bits

Round bits are not compatible with the Ryobi impact drivers. You need the hex shank "quick connect" bits and accessories. There is an adapter available. it is basically a regular style of keyless drill chuck with the quick connect hex shank that should fit right in to your Impact.

most of them you just hold the chuck tightly, and turn on the drill in reverse.

Re: Burned trigger switch: call the number on the drill (800.590.3723) and tell them what happened. They will offer to send you a new switch or have you send the drill in for replacement of the switch--although the person I talked with said they would probably just replace the whole drill.

Milwaukee 2601-20, pull trigger, light comes on but chuck won't turn. It seems as though the chuck moves slightly but that's all

Is the charger working properly? Do you have any other M18 tools you can test the battery with? If the batteries are ok - these drills have micro-controllers in them (they also "drive" the battery guage LEDs). Short of taking it apart...not much you can do. Supposing it was apart - there's lots of videos on YT that show you how to check for cold solder joints, wiring problems, defective switches or controller boards.

New armature + carbon brushes are much cheaper then replace a battery , if the tool give a sharp sound it have a problem with the armature ( it is a frequent problem by Milwaukee but also Panasonic on the Johnson made armatures that have both brands because of the latest winding technique more power but a problem heat dissipation and thermal runaway in the long run.
The older Johnson armatures have no problems with the build up inside heat but have only some less and power worn collectors by many operating hours
The best option is the cheapest decision first replace the armature only if the tool sounds sharp and not smooth anymore thats the decision and its the best choice if you are thinking that the battery has no capacitance anymore it will have longer life armatures have a lifetime between 2 and 3 years if daily use but can be shorter but no longer for the battery that will stay much longer there is with Li Ion no memory effect to fear Many people are mistaken in the fact that the anchor can be the problem of a rapidly emptied battery.
If the armature has no problem the switch could be give the problem too but is relatively more expensive to replace.

remove the brushes and make a measuring on both brushholders for the dc voltage that its not faltering without the load of a bad armature

How do I get the M18 light to turn off it stays on all The time

If it's the white work light ? Has someone worked on it recently ? Does the work light go off when pulling trigger? Are the forward and reverse switched ? It could be the blk and red wires on the brush card assembly are switched.

My M18 Drill has an LED Light that does shut off when I let go of trigger.

That's the way the LED is supposed to operate. It comes on when you activate the trigger, and shuts off 10-seconds after you let go. It's a feature listed in the manual. Unfortunately, some of them seem to be staying on permanently, which does drain the battery, and no one seems to have a solution. Obviously, this is a flaw in the electronics governing the LED. Milwaukee should fix them for free.

I have the m18 impact driver and i doesnt seem to be spinning as quickly and doesnt have the same power as when i bought it. it still works but not even close to the same.

The only reason a battery powered device slows down is that it's not getting the appropriate voltage from the battery. Your m18 has a lithium-ion battery that when topped off, and for what should be a good long work-period, deliver 18vdc to the motor. Unfortunately, some of the earlier m18 batteries have had some issues and are not fully charging. Some of this is due to improper charging, over heating, storage problems and physical damage.

Milwaukee utilizes a "smart battery" Digital Management System to monitor the "draw" on the battery to keep the user from frying the motor or overtaxing the battery. How hard to you use the tools...perhaps you should trade the stock compact versions for the XC (extra capacity) versions.

You don't say how long you've had these tools, but if you'll go back to the retailer you bought them from, you may be able to get replacement batteries there. Otherwise, check out the Milwaukee website. I think they came out with M18 XC "RED LITHIUM". I think this might be a replacement.

Nonetheless, Milwaukee offers a 2 year warranty on their batteries, so contact your retailer or Milwaukee directly.
