When you press the power button, the fan runs, but nothing else happends?
After a few minutes, the laptop reboots?
Unfortunately, when an HP laptop does that, 99.9% means that your grafic card is out...
Thats a common problem with all notebooks now a days...
You can try to do a reballing on your grafic card, but it's expenssive, and don't have warranty.
So if you really want to have that laptop working, buying a new motherboard is the most reliable.

Whats a reballing? Here's a video:

SOURCE: wont boot no bios screen nothing

Check your memory card. Reseat or clean its edge connector with soft eraser.Do this after you shut it down properly , battery disconnected, and no any other power source is connected.

That is the first thing to suspect. Or try it also with a spare good ram card.

Ok, check your RAM, reseat or clean it with soft eraser, only its edge connector both side. Do this when unit is off and no other power source is connected to it even its battery.

How do you fix a corrupted bios?

I don't think it's corrupt bios, maybe a virus or malware.
But if you can go to the computers maker website and download bios and install them the way they tell you to install them.

Could a dead bios battery result in a blank black screen?

The EEPROM is not the copy of the BIOS used to boot the OS or effect settings. The EEPROM defaults get copied into CMOS memory (hence why it is called the CMOS battery). So if the CMOS battery is dead then there is nothing to energize the CMOS chip to retain its values. That means on every boot you will get the defaults loaded from EEPROM. It will not cause black screen.
you do not give much info, does machine come on and runs but screen is black, or computer dose not start at all, more detail would help, press the helpful button and RE POST with more info

No post screen on zd7410us

Ok the 1millionth dead XP, its dead product now for 3years at microsoft. (zero support now)
a virus magnet too.
1: does it run in F8? safe mode, LCD and external VGA jack?
2: does a linux boot cd work, proving all is ok but HDD or windoz?
3: BIOS always works, ?
Id say windows is infected.
in F8 mode windows uses baseline WHQL driver that must work
or windows is dead, (infected ) or HDD bad. or GPU chip bad.
If BIOS works the GPU is ok, see?
if F8 works and booted to say a linux LIVE CD works
then windows is borked,
press F11 and reload windows, now.
if it wont load hdd is toasted. (this is the HP recovery partition)

other causes, i cant watch you but the system can overheat.
and all shut down that way. CPU and GPU.

Black screen on ao532h-2527

First - re-seat the harddisk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot andgo into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If itdoesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty. Then the hard drive needsto be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer orlaptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioningcomputer/laptop again.

Old compaq presario 900 won't start. I see the Compag logo and then immediately black screen with blinking cursor. HDD is new Western Digital 250 GB, and tests ok with Seatools diagnostic. 1 GB memory...

Watch the screen as it boots up looking for the press F1 or DEL to access Setup. Your Presario may not be able to see the new HD in which case you will have to run second party software to access the HD. Get into the Setup BIOS and check for your new HD under hard drive detection if the BIOS can not find it, you will have to run other software to access the drive. If your BIOS gives you the option to start up the hard drive after a delay such as 1 or 2 seconds try that, as the BIOS on the hard drive and the BIOS on the motherboard may be clashing. Hope this Fixya up

Screen is black, but fan runs. Then computer cuts

This most often means you have a bad cpu or motherboard. When the bios does its post checks it looks for issues and will shut the pc down if all the devices are not funtioning correctly or the CPU reaches critical heat.

Black screen after windows xp startup screen

Hi Topdarr,

How are you?

I have read your posted problem and would like to give you few suggestions.

1. Start your PC and start pressing F2, F10, DELETE or the The Key assigned for your PC BIOS, you can find that on your PC Screen.

2. Once you enter in the BIOS press F9 to make your BIOS to it's default settings.

Alternatively you can navigate to Exit menu and move UP and Down With Arrow keys and select load default settings.

3. Now press F10 key to save your settings or select Save Settings & Exit .

Your PC will reboot after exit.

4. Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:

To go into safe mode -- Press F8 key as soon as the pc restarts.

(You will have do it again if pc starts in normal mode.)

On the black screen >>> LAST GOOD KNOWN CONFIGURATION.

Press enter Key Twice to boot your PC.

Please let me know the result.

Thanks

Unable to boot past BIOS

Hi Hanjiya, I suspect a hardware failure; I would pull off everything you can to make this as basic a PC as you can. Hardware POST checks, fans and LEDs are good to do very basic tests and elimination but are not definitive tests. If it still doesn?t work I would try using a power supply tester or switch out with a known good, followed by the RAM, processor and video card leaving only the motherboard. If you get this far and the problem is still there then your failure is the motherboard. Look for damaged capacitors with rounded tops or corrosion at the base. I?ve had two 2004-2006 era Dells refuse to complete the POST because of defective capacitors just recently. If still no luck you might try buying a pre-POST diagnostic card ($50 and up). If you don?t want to invest in that you should consider taking your PC to a shop that does have one. I know it runs again most of our personalities to pay a tech but consider this. I?ve run into lots of people who spend weeks and big bucks troubleshooting a problem someone with the right equipment can diagnose cheaply (overall) the first time. Without the test equipment or a similar PC you can use for parts you?re going to have to start buying parts one at a time in a process of elimination. Let us know if you have any more questions or comments and please don?t forget to rate the posting.
