Question about Garden

1 Answer

I have a husky push mower that worked well foro years-no problems. Half way through moweing the lawn it starts sputtering, shooting out black smoke on the left of the mower. I no longer have the manual and understand I may need to adjust the air intake valve but don't know where that is. It has new gas and oil level is ok. Thanks

Make sure oil is NOT black if it is replace asap. the air intake valve is on the carb which is located near the gas tank, its the switch on top.

Black smoke is generally indicative of a rich fuel system. whitish blue smoke is generally burning oil.
It sounds like there is something wrong with the fuel metering at full throttle. You might check that the mechanical compression release isn't coming on when you go to full throttle.

Similar issue - buddies CubCadet with Kohler Courage 22 would not stay running. Turned out the coils got rusty where it interacts with flywheel. cleaned the contacts (be careful to shim for proper spacing) and ran like a top.

Sounds like you will need to clean your carburetor.
Sometimes you can get by with priming it a few times, and letting it
run a few times like that and it will flush the gunk out of the jets,
but most of the time you will need to rebuild the carburetor.
If the mower is over a couple years old, then I also recommend that you
buy and install a new carburetor repair kit, because the diaphragm will
get hard and that will cause it to be hard to crank.
When you clean your carburetor and remove the jet screws, count the
number of turns it takes to seat the jets from their original position.
That way when you go to put the jets back in, you know how many turns
they were in/out.
Please do not forget to rate me, Thanks
Good Luck, I hope this helps

Sputtering Mower

It might not be disengaging the mower deck all the way off. I had this problem on an older model.
