Dyson DC59 and DC62 - vacuum makes a pulsing sound (removing a blockage)

Dyson Digital Slim DC59 and DC62 cordless vacuum cleaners are engineered to make a pulsing sound to let you know if they're blocked. This could happen if an item too large for the machine is accidentally vacuumed up. Our video support guide will help you identify and remove any obstructions from the motorised floor tool, wand or bin inlet.

My DC59 is making a chugging noise, as soon as I try to use it

Hi Mary, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59 is engineered to make a pulsing noise to warn you if something is stopping airflow from passing through the machine. The motor will then shut itself down for protection.

This would usually be caused by a temporary blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet, but the filter may also need a wash. Our video guide will walk you through each area to check:

I'm confident removing any blockages and giving the filter a wash will get your DC59 up and running again.

If you would like any further help after you've given this a try, just give the Dyson Customer Helpline a call on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

When my dc59 is on boost it starting and stoping

Hi Paul, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59's motor is engineered to make a pulsing noise to warn you if something is preventing airflow from passing through the machine. This could mean the washable pre-filter is overdue for a wash, but could also be caused by a blockage in the floor tool, wand or bin inlet.

Following the simple steps shown in our video guide should help you resolve this:

I'm confident that washing the filter and removing any obstructions will get your DC59 up and running again. But if you would like some further help after giving this a try, just call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

If i take the filter out the noise is constant again so do i need a new filter

Hi Pamela, it's Jack at Dyson.

If your DC59 runs as normal with the filter removed, but makes a pulsing noise with the filter in place, this does not necessarily indicate an issue with the filter itself. There could be a blockage in the motorised floor tool, wand or bin inlet that is causing the issue - removing the filter allows the airflow to bypass all of these parts so this doesn't help in diagnosing the cause.

Please follow each of the steps shown in our video guide to resolve locate any blockages in the machine that could be causing this issue:

If the pre-filter has been washed according to the User guide, and there are no blockages in your DC59, it should run as normal. The filter is engineered to last the lifetime of the vacuum in normal use, and we would not expect it to need replacing unless accidentally damaged.

For further help after giving these checks a try, please call the Dyson Customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

I have got a Dyson DC59 and it is just doing short bursts and not doing anything else

Hi Pamela, it's Jack at Dyson.

DC59's motor is engineered to make a pulsing noise to signal if something is blocking airflow from passing through the machine. This could mean there's a blockage in the motorised floor tool, wand or bin inlet. Check the pivoting flap inside the bin inlet is not jammed, and can move freely, and you may also want to give the filter a wash.

To check for any obstructions, follow the simple steps shown in our video guide:

In normal use, we recommend washing the filter at least once a month using cold water without detergent. Allow at least 24 hours for the filter to dry completely before replacing it:

I'm confident this will resolve the issue. However if you'd like some further help from our experts after giving this a try, please call us on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

How do i know the dc59 needs charging

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

The Dyson DC59 cordless vacuum has two LED indicator lights on either side of the handgrip, which you'll see where the battery attaches to the handgrip. These will flash to let you know when there's less than 1 minute of charge remaining.

    2b5dc468-8727-414e-93ea-884c6cb69910.jpg

Once the charge has depleted, the machine will shut off - the power won't trail away gradually as with some cordless products.

If your DC59 is making an intermittent pulsing noise when you hold down the on/off trigger, this is likely to be because a blockage in the motorised floor tool, wand or bin inlet is preventing airflow passing through the vacuum. If this is the case, please follow the steps shown in the video below to clear any obstructions:

I hope this answers your question, but if you'd like further assistance from our experts you're welcome to call us directly on 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).
