Question about Husqvarna "Chain Saw - 16" Bar, 3 Hp

2 Answers

I have a 350 18" 2000 model Husqvarna chainsaw. I have tested for spark, replaced the plug (wetting it before installation), I have compression after replacing the ignition module and gas line and I have gas to the carb. Cannot get it to even fire, less alone start. JB

While waiting for your answer, I went out to the shop and pulled the plug and layed it on the head with plug wire attached there was spark and gas accumulated on top of the head. I also used my Briggs spark plug gap tester and there was spark. I tried starting after plug installed and compression was stronger with compression button pulled out. However, less compression with button pushed in, but still good resistance. The gas container is the same one I use for my weedeater with no problem.

    So now what?

Tried suggestion. Nothing. It occurred to me, maybe old gas still in carb. I pulled plug and gapped .30 instead of .20 the book calls for. Wet the plug and reinstalled with rag in carb. Nothing. Also tried with throttle wide open.

This saw has set up for about 3 years. When it quit I was out in the field cutting wood in the heat. In fact, I just burned a saw in the same way last week (no compression).

Does it have spark? if not look for a bad ignition pickup off the flywheel or a damaged broken wire around that area..

Probably carb is need to be adjustment. If you cannot cover the air filter entirely remove it and place the rag over the carburetor where the air filter was and start.

    Good Luck!!

you might have to have the unit re-calibrated with the auto tune software available at husqvarna dealer. there is no adjustments that you can do with an auto-tune carb. it will need to be hooked up to a computer at your husqvarna dealer.

Husqvarna 55 rancher chainsaw acts like it is locked up, remove the spark plug and it spins fine. what is the problem?

That sounds like normal compression. By removing the spark plug you are eliminating the compression in the cylinder therefore it will turn freely. Doesn't sound like a problem.

However, check that it is the right spark plug for the saw. If it is too long then it may enter the cylinder too far and be acting like a piston stop.

Husqvarna 36 cc chainsaw wont start replaced spark plug cleaned carb

Are you getting a spark..? - NO? check wiring loom from ignition module, check timing gap between flywheel and ignition module, check on/off switch.
Does it have compression.? - NO? then check piston/rings and cylinder
Is fuel getting to the cylinder.? - NO? Carb problem of fuel line issue

Won't start .is 70# compression enough. Spark and fuel ok. Took off carb and cleaned it. Doesn't even fire with small dose of starting fluid

70psi compression indicates it's rebuild time; the compression should be double that. You can confirm what the compression should be with good rings by putting a few drops of oil in the spark plug hole and testing compression "wet". That figure will be what a new saw would have.

Describe your Husqvarna "Chain Saw -

Remove the spark plug and test for spark. If ok, try some starting fluid in the plug hole, install the plug, and try to start. If it runs a short time, it is not getting fuel. Check fuel lines including inside the tank. Clean or replace the air filter. If this saw is fairly old, the carburetor probably needs a re-kit and cleaning. Does it have good compression? Check the muffler for plugging. Make sure the fuel/oil mix is fresh. Good luck!

Husqvarna 357xp flooding

2 things you might want to look at.
1) Vacuum test your fuel line. This is a common problem with huskys.

2) Check to see if the exhaust port or spark arrestor screen is plugged up. If so pick out a carbon deposits.
