Question about Motorola HT1000, MTS2000, MTX8000/9000 Compatible 2 Way Radio Battery Eliminator

2 Answers

Programming MTS2000 I have several MTS2000 radios which are in very good condtion and work well, but the previous owner did not blank the encription protocal. All channels work but they will not connect to a network as the encryption keys are bad. I would like to know how to blank out the encryption key requirement and just use them on a single channel (1) (a) for ease of use. These were previously owned by a police department and all 16 channels have been programmed. I have the programming cable but no software. I do have the software for the XTS5000R but it is not compatible. I plan to use these on mobile job sites which requires coordination between equipment operators and workers on the ground. I do not want to use them with a repeater or on a network. I just want to use them as stand-alone on a single channel.

You need the software it is the only way. Also you need a slow computer with DOS to clear that.

The toggle switch on the portable radio can be programed for different options like changing zones ( groups ) of radio channels.
It depends on how it is programed. A lot of times it is turned off in the program.

How to create my own layouts?

Both the MTX8000 B5 & B7 models are Type II Trunking. If you are (un)lucky enough you might find an F3 modem that does Type II.
If it is an MTX8000 and has a front mounted display with either a 6 button or full keypad, you have a radio that will do Type II.
There were a few B3's that were Type II produced by Motorola. However, you can clone a Type II code plug into a B3 radio and it will work just fine.
You can run system watch using a MTS2000 handheld. Firmware version has to be above 5.44 (which has a 512k controller in it). Most MTS2000/MTX8000's only have a 256k controller, which will not work. You can put the radio into RF modem mode from the F4-F4-F4 (Trunking Config).
NOTE: When the radio is in the RF MODEM mode, it will do a self test and then the screen will go blank. The radio DOES NOT have to be programed to the system you want to watch. You set SYSTEMWATCH to the Spectra with RIB mode (works best). Even watches Type I systems.
If you have the accessory adapter for the side connector on the radio, the typical schematic of the speaker mic looks like this.
If you are using a Public Safety speaker mic with the radio, you might want to order part number 3205514W01 to cover the antenna connector on the radio.
If you are trying to program a MTX-838, from what we've heard, you need to use the MTSX software. The RVN4097F ver R02.10.01 RSS package specifically shows it programs the following radios: MT/MTS2000 MTX838/8000/9000. Now, the update for this software is RVN4097M R06.00.00 05 Sept 97, which should mean that it should program the radio as well. The cable you need is the standard MTSX programming cable.
Do you want to build your own programming cable? If you don't want to use an old speaker mic cable, see the individual part numbers of the parts for the Service Cable, below.
You may want to look at the schematic for the RKN4035D Service Cable. This is the actual Motorola cable used for programming and servicing these radios.
The individual part numbers for the components of this cable are listed below.

The HT1000 is dealer programmable only. You should take the HT1000 to the nearest Motorola dealership and turn it in. It is likely they will be able to return the radio to its rightful owner.

About mts2000 i

The MTS2000 is a dealer programmable radio, there is no way to know what is in channel 4. You would need to have the radio read-out by a dealer, the print-out from the original programming or know who the dealer was and call them.

Motorola HT 1000

Your radios might need reprogramming. This is done by a Motorola dealer using the appropriate cable and software. The software is not available for end-users. Cost generally is $35-$40 US.

From the information you provided, it is unclear if the radios previously worked together; or if the radios are the same model number. These are facts the dealer would be able to inquire about, and it would help them determine if your radios can talk to one another.

How can I program my MTS 2000

Most Motorola shops, including ours, will program the radios using Motorola proprietory RSS for a small fee. (Ours start at $25 with $5 for each additional unit cloned via the RSS.)

Cloning via the RSS is only possible if the units are all the same exact model number.

Communications

Hi,

Yes, but depends on the configuration/setup and programming/frequency assignation of the MTS2000.

To my knowledge, the UHF version of the Motorola MTS2000 are designed to operate either in the 403~470Mhz or the 450~512 or 520MHz band.

On the other hand, Motorola TalkAbout Radio are design limited to operate in the FRS band which is 462.5625~462.7250MHZ and/or the GMRS band which is 462.550~467.725.

So technically, both the MTS2000 and the FRS/GMRS share some frequencies. What needs to be done is to re-program the frequency allocation of the MTS2000 into its channels to match the TalkAbouts frequencies. The other way around is not possible. TalkAbouts frequency assignments can not be reprogrammed/changed. Below are typical TalkAbout Channels/Frequencies.de11c4e.jpg

Hope this be of help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.
