How to set up AHCI mode In RS482M bios.

Hello from here you can download a manual:

http://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Product/Product_Detail.aspx?CategoryID=1&DetailID=536&DetailName=Feature&MenuID=24&LanID=0

If the bios is set to IDE/sata mode it will not boot when you select the ahci mode.
Your windows has to be installed again when the settings are made in the bios in order to make the ahci mode working.

More about ahci here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host_Controller_Interface

Good luck

My NC10 has a crack in the in screen and has destroyed more then half the screen... Can this be fixd? Or is itcheaper to get a new lap top??

My viewpoint is that it's worth repairing,.....that is if YOU do it.

A couple of places from a quick search, that carry the LCD screen for Samsung NC10 series laptops,

http://www.laptopscreenonline.com/samsung-nc10-replacement-screen-laptop-lcd-5863-p.asp

http://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-NP-NC10-LAPTOP-SUBSTITUTE-REPLACEMENT/dp/B003TP6K1G

This site has the Service Manual for the Samsung NC10 series of laptops, (Free),

http://www.tim.id.au/blog/tims-laptop-service-manuals/#toc-samsung

Click on the blue NC10.

[This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
Allow up to 30 seconds for the file to download)

Replacing the LCD screen is a fairly straightforward affair.
Remove ALL power to the netbook. Remove the AC adapter (Charger) and Battery.
Follow the Service Manual.

If you have additional questions please post in a Comment.

I have toshiba satellite L505-S5990 model.i have installed windows xp by changing the settings in Bios that is sata hard disk enabled as compatable mode from AHCI.if i change to AHCI i can't install...

If you would like to make use of the SATA controller's AHCI features, you should enable this BIOS feature. But please note that enabling this feature requires you to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.
If you do not intend to use the AHCI features, it's recommended that you disable this BIOS feature. This allows you to use the native Windows XP driver. You won't need to load the SATA controller driver during the Windows XP installation routine.

What's the difference between AHCI and IDE in SATA?

1.IDE is an old interface standard used for storage devices while AHCI is an application programming interface for the newer SATA interface.
2.Most SATA controllers allow you to choose between AHCI and IDE among other operation modes.
3.AHCI has advanced features like NCQ and hot plugging that is not available with IDE.
4.Switching from IDE to AHCI or vice versa after the operating system is installed can lead to problems.

Therefore, in BIOS, when you choose AHCI interface your HDD behaves like a SATA one and when you choose IDE it behaves like an IDE one.

If AHCI is not enabled by the motherboard and chipset, SATA controllers typically operate in "IDE emulation" mode which does not allow features of devices to be accessed if the ATA/IDE standard does not support them. Windows device drivers that are labeled as SATA are usually running in IDE emulation mode unless they explicitly state that they are AHCI. While the drivers included with Windows XP do not support AHCI, AHCI has been implemented by proprietary device drivers.[1] Windows Vista[2] and Linux with kernel version 2.6.19 onward[3] have native support for AHCI.
