My 120G Zune was working fine for 4 months, and while using it i usually slide the lock to the "ON" position so i don't inadvertantly change something. The last time i used it when i was done i slid the lock to the "OFF" position but it stayed in the "ON" position and the LOCKED icon is on the bottom of the screen and it seems there is absolutely no way to unlock it. None of the reset options have worked. Has anyone out there had this happen? Can anyone help?
One other option you may not know of is to hold the down button, and the back button at the same time. This will send the Zune into a deeper "off" state, and may reset your lock command.
If NO other options are working, you should probably try a "hard reset".
This means you will have to open the Zune itself up (you can find simple instructions for this fairly easily online) and pull a small plug out that connects the battery to the Zune itself. Don't worry, your music wont be deleted.

Hi, Thanks for using Fixya. (i) Unlock the memory card. There is a Lock switch on the left side of the SD card. Make sure the Lock switch is slid up (unlock position). You will not be able to modify or delete the contents on the memory card if it is locked. (ii) Toggle the lock switch. If the lock switch is not on lock: 1. Slide the switch up and down. Repeat this 3 times. 2. Let it stay on the Lock position for 30 seconds. 3. Slide the switch up to unlock the card. 4. Try to transfer files into the device. Thanks for using Fixya. Good Luck and have a nice day. Rating the solution is highly appreciated.
The Lock button came right out and the wires attached to it broke, right? If so, y'alls pfft. or, if not... Go to this website and follow Steps 1 thru 4 ONLY. Picture 4 of Step 4 shows the top of the device to the left and the headphone jack nearest you. The Lock button should be right below the top arrow on the left of Picture 4. To unlock it, slide the switch **away** from the headphone jack.
!!! Please note that this is all strictly assumptions on my part. I have *never* taken my 30gig apart and am strictly working from the pics & past experience w/ micro-electronics. Do Not Take My Words As Being Absolutely Correct !!!
If you are using an SD or MMC card, check if the lock button (on the side of the card - a tiny plastic that you can slide) is on the LOCK position. Slide it to UNLOCK position. If it's already in UNLOCK position, slide it to LOCK , then UNLOCK position.
after much research on this matter in the past few hours. To resolve this situation don't shut the zune down by holding play/pause button it does not shut down properly that way.
Hold down the down & back button down until shuts off....zune recommends as the best way to turn off your zune. Also if you are having problems holding charge, a lot of people replaced the original charge plug and found that it worked again. these cables usually become faulty from previous models and 30gigs. So buy a new cable & shut it down correctly.
Still no worky??? Call zune, within 1 year they will accept it for repairs. They may even send you a new refurbished zune...since they no longer are making the 30 gig...probably for those reasons.
I hope this advice not only helps you but myself. Who wants an expensive paperweight...not I!
