I would NOT use this particular charger with your any MacBook, MacBook air, Pro etc. Even if you were able to power it for a short time, it is not recommended. These Power Pucks are notorious for over delivery of wattage. The Magsafe delivers 60 watts while the PP delivers right around 100. The newer Apples have Lithium Polymer batteries that last quite a bit longer and are more environmentally safe. Using this All in One Power Puck is a sure way to shorten the life of the battery and possibly the machine. That is more unlikely, however we work with customers all the time that are denied warranty because of using 'aftermarket' equipment when a failure occurred. I hope this helps you with your decision. If you must use aftermarket, try Ebay. They have tons of Magsafe remakes. Thank you for coming to Fixya for an answer!

Computer will not turn on even with power cord

1. Disconnect any devices connected to the computer including printers, hubs, and third-party keyboards or mice, and test the computer again by trying to turn it on.
2. Find out whether the battery on your Apple portable has power. Press the small button on the side or bottom of the computer, depending on the model. Lights should indicate the battery's level of charge. A single blinking light means the battery needs to be recharged. Connect the adapter to recharge the battery.
3. Unplug the power adapter from the electrical outlet and from the MacBook Pro. Wait one minute. Plug it back into the wall first, then to the computer. Make sure the electrical outlet is working by plugging in another device (such as a lamp). When you plug the adapter back into the computer, the power adapter LED should light up green or amber. If the light does not come on or the computer continues to not power on, proceed to step four.
4. Inspect your MagSafe power adapter. See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for instructions on cleaning the adapter and more details for these steps:
  • Check the MagSafe connector on the adapter for any bent or damaged pins, debris, or alignment issues with the connector.
  • Check the MagSafe connector on the computer for any debris, damaged pins, or alignment issues.
  • Check the MagSafe adapters cabling for any wear or cable issues.
5. Make sure you are using the adapter that was designed for your computer. If you aren't sure or if you need a different adapter, learn which adapter is appropriate for your computer.
6. Review the steps for resetting the SMC (System Management Controller) on your Apple portable computer.
7. If you recently installed additional memory or a hard drive not made by Apple, make sure it is installed correctly and is compatible with your computer.
8. If you are still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, schedule a service appointment with an Apple Retail Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

IMac 27inch won't boot up

Power issues After ruling out display issues, and if your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps.
  1. Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device
  2. If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power, try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter. If you're using a Mac notebook, see Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
  3. Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to your computer. This includes things like printers, USB hubs, or mobile devices.
  4. Hold down the power button for ten seconds. Then, press the power button again to see if the computer turns on.
  5. Reset the SMC.
  6. If you recently installed memory or a drive in your Mac, make sure it's compatible, supported, and installed correctly. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive to see if the issue persists afterwards.
  7. If you're still unable to start up your computer after trying each of these steps, visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) for further diagnosis. If you plan to visit an Apple Retail Store, make a reservation at the Genius Bar using (available in some countries only).

The part that is of most interest on this web page is:
  • Shut down the computer.
  • Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
  • Remove the battery.
  • Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
  • Release the power button.

Battery will not charge. Best buy and IT dept

The issue could also be with the MagSafe adapter because if that power cord is not working, your Macbook's battery will fail to charge as well.

If you are able to get your MagSafe Power adapter tested and it works, then yes, the Best Buy Geek Squad you communicated would, be correct in assessing that the issue is more than likely the main logic board due to the connectivity from the MagSafe port to the main logic board.

So my suggestion, before allowing any tech support service to conclude that the main logic board is the reason your battery will not charge, have that MagSafe power adapter checked and actually, now that I think about it, have your battery checked as well, because it may be defective.

It is not uncommon for a Macbook battery to become defective early in its use.

To bring this answer full circle for you, have these components checked first, before accepting that the main logic board is the issue.

If you need to visit an Apple retail store Genius bar, I would recommend you do, because they have all the tools needed to check your Macbook and provide you the full diagnostics to isolate the reason for the battery not charging.
