Denon 1740 DVD tray won't open

The dvd tray won't open and when using the remote the player says "open,close,open, etc" without anything happening.

-   The player stopped in the middle of playing a movie and now the tray won't open nor will the movie play. It just says it is reading on the top right of the screen. How do I fix it? If the dvd player is toast, how do I get the dvd out of the tray?-   Guest
