Camera keeps saying "busy" when I try to upload pictures to my computer using EOS Utility

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use the EOS Utility or any other photo management program, such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

I get an Err CR inmy Canon EOS Rebet XT-Bad card?

  1. Test the CF card on your computer or another camera. If it works fine then it may not be the card. Make sure the card is not UDMA, 4GB or more in memory size since those new big cards are not compatible with the older cameras.
  2. Look inside the CF port. Make sure that none of the contacts that connect the camera and CF card are bend of smashed flat. If so then the camera will have to be send off for repair. This is a rather expensive repair, $250 is not uncommon.
  3. I it is neither of these then take the camera to a local camera shop and ask them to look at it. It may need to be sent off, but testing another brand card, or resetting the camera or checking for physical defects couldn't hurt at this point.

EOS Utility does not recoganize Canon Rebel Xti

I believe there are 2 modes of usb transfer that you can pick in the camera. They are set somewhere in the menu in the options. If you go through the menus thoroughly you'll find it. One option is for connecting the camera directly to a printer and the other is for computer transfer (there might also be an Auto setting but I don't remember for sure). Make sure that setting is set for computer transfer. If that doesn't fix your problem, re-install or update EOS Utility / ZoomBrowser.
