Remove recoil assembly. Observe cord installation. Remove old cord. New cord is sold by the foot at mower repair shop. Replace cord, reassemble recoil assembly.

Off hand I would say the recoil spring is broken. they can be a bugger to replace. I would remove the cover and take it to a hasqvarna dealer, and have them replace it.

Pull cord wont recoil homelite xl 12

You will need to take the cover off to get to the recoil, then remove the pull handle do not let go of the cord! Now ease the cord into the reciol but do not let the cord go, now while holding the cord and the recoil spool rotate the spool 1 revelution clockwise, send the cord back up through the case hole and through the pull handle tie the knot in the cord and replace the case if this still isn't enough repeat the process.Dennis

Pulley cord wont go down unable to start on gas trimmer

Your cord wont recoil?

You should remove the recoil cover and see if you can rewind the rope manually.

It isnt too hard and will let you know immediately if you need to replace the recoil.

Just the recoil unit by loosening the three or four bolts and lift it off the trimmer. Turn it over and look at the recoil spool. There should be a notch in it. This is were you catch a bit of the starter rope and start turning it in the direction of normal rotation. Normal rotation will put tension on the recoil spring.
When you put 4-6 turns into it just let it recoil and see if it pulls all the rope back in. That's it. If the cord didnt recoil something inside the recoil has broken and you need to get the unit serviced or replaced. Most of the time the cost of repairing something like this is prohibitive. Its a better idea to just replace the whole unit.

Good luck and be careful!

Broken recoil start on tecumseh 6.5 hp

broken cord? remove bolts holding recoil housing.lift housing straight up,you may have to wiggle it a bit.turn housing over, remove any cord thats left, note how & where it connects to the spool.wind the spool [and consquently the spring under it]in the direction the cord would turn it as pulled when starting.hold spool tight.thread new cord through hole in housing.let spool turn back just enough to attach new cord.hold cord & housing, let spring "re-coil" cord slowly.check for smooth operation.replace housing.you may need to pull cord slightly to align 'square' shaft w/hole in spool.only after you are satisfied with the operation of it adjust length of cord by pushing excess cord through the handle, tie a new knot, then cut off excess,if any.
