Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators
There is strong smell coming from back of unit. It emits the odor when the fan is running and it is a pretty rotten smell. We have moved the unit out and it does not appear as if anything is back there causing the odor and there is no rotten food inside and there is no smell inside. Your help is appreciated. Russ
Hmm, usually when i go to a call like that i find a remainding body of a mouse or rat, they try to make it to the pan underneath for water and get chopped, other than i would clean EVERYTHING....

Hello - From what you have described it sounds like the unit has faulty elements or could possibly be experiencing a wiring issue with the EOC. Try resetting the oven by unplugging it or flipping the household circuit breaker off. Wait approximately ten minutes and if it proves to be ineffective contact a professional to move forward accurately to properly diagnose the unit.

After a dishwasher is installed the hose rarely comes to mind - unless a problem occurs and a repair person comes out to inspect the job. If the hose was installed improperly, or if it is lying in a position that does not let it drain, stagnant water will create a bad smell. Examine the hose that is probably inside the kitchen cabinet beneath the sink. If the hose is lying in the bottom of the cabinet, it is probably full of water. A film begins to form inside the hose and the odor begins to grow. The next time the dishwasher is used, the stagnant water ends up on dishes, and in the meantime it can cause a bad smell inside of the dishwasher. Hang the hose at an angle on supports in the back of the cabinet. This alone might get rid of the bad smell inside the dishwasher.
Check the Seal
A dirty dishwasher seal can be a source of a bad smell. Before deciding the dishwasher needs to be replaced, check the seal - especially at the bottom. Old food and grime builds up in these areas and can cause a particularly bad smell. Clean it with a solution of diluted bleach and hot soapy water. One teaspoon of bleach for each quart of water is sufficient to kill germs and the odors they create.
NB I decided to add a little bit of vinegar to the machine after I unloaded it. Sure it would smell pretty strong for a while but then the smell would dissipate. Voila! For two weeks now my dishes have not smelled whatsoever.
