18V xrp Drill Help

My 18V XRP Drill recently started making a grinding noise during use. I also noticed some smoke and the smell of burning rubber and or plastic. The noise and smoke is definately coming from the motor of the drill. Is this anything that can be fixed by a fairly handy homeowner, and if so where can I get parts. Thanks. Ryan

I recently was using my drill with a brand new 5/8 forestner bit when I noticed a foul hot  smell and smoke coming out of my drill. I removed my battery and tried to see the problem. I popped in a cool fresh battery and hit the trigger to have the exact thing happen immediately. I inspected the batteries to see the problem, the plastic in the middle of the copper contact of the battery had melted. Two batteries junk within minutes as well as the drill itself. I had just purchased a new twin pack of batteries 3 weeks earlier to replace a pack that had just mysteriously died, same thing upon further inspection. All my tools shot! Now what, I went to a local unamed store to have the tool salesperson there tell me to switch brands, great ,that seems easy enough for any self employed contractor. Just throw the old "good" brand package out and replace it with a different brand of package at the cool cost of $900 . And you all know ,You can't do much without your drill/driver style tools.

The problem could be the brushes and if so it is be quit easy to replace them by pulling the drill apart and slipping the old ones out of there sleeves on the armature and slipping the new ones back in there place . you can buy these brushes at any good tool shop . all you will need is the model number of the drill which you can locate on the side case of your drill . hope this helps.

Dewalt 18v xrp clutch slipping and electrical smoke smell in rear

Yes you can. Depending on the model of the tool it may not be the clutch causing your problem though. On some models the transmission is more likely the problem. Brushes create an ozone smell when the motor runs so that could be the smell. Does it run slow or get hot?

I am thinking the switch or motor is bad, check the switch first. you can locate parts at Make a wiring diagram before removing anything, these parts are polarity sensitive.

Dewalt 18v XRP Hammer drill cause battery to burn, I'm talking flames and smoke. Motor run in both direction.

I hope this drill is still under warranty as the battery is in serious trouble. As long as the motor is turning, it should not be causing the battery to do this. Hope this helps!

My JCB 18V cordless drill is not working when you press the trigger. The battery is fully charged any ideas please.

It's probably the switch; mine judders and works kind of. Slight burning smell coming from it, dismantled it to discover that the switch has started to burn out, so far no luck finding a replacement.........

JCB are totally useless, no help from their support phone number!

When I use the drill there is a burnt smell afterwards...what is causing this?

Drillbits "burn" what you are drilling when there is too much friction. That is caused by a variety of things...including...lack of lubrication for metal work...and usually a dull drill bit in wood.

If you see no smoke comming from the point of might be your drill motor..check it out when you are using could be dirty and need a good cleaning...or it could be burning out from excessive or improper usage.

Dewalt cordless drill

You have burned out the drill motor, it is shorted, the battery smoked due to a direct short, one thing I don't understand why the thermal limiter didn't trip in battery pack, I would contact manufacturer and try to get hem to buy you a new drill.
