1990 jeep wrangler 2 carbureted fuel pump runs about a second ,fuel shoots out pline at back of carburetor, but none will spray inside

must be 4.2L engine the 2.5 is EFI TBI.(French EFI)
the 4.2 has computer controlled carb from H3LL
never ever buy a jeep like this, ever.
if hellbent on this bad car, to fix then buy the service manuals off fleabay.. (id not even hesitate there)

my guess is the carb is bad, what checks matters are.
fuel nozzles dead, is that.
1: fuel pressure at spec. not dribble tests. (no dribble yes, means pump dead) (using a real pressure gauge)
2: float level correct. ? if bowl dry bingo. !
3: jets not clogged, inside carb.
4; carb computer working (Tests stated in SM)
5: dead carb solenoids.

there is no worse car than a ECM controlled carb. horrid system.
ended in 91. as Chrysler took over..from AMC

join a real jeep forum and hear them moan, ?

2 fuses need to be good, F1 and F2, 1amp rated.
in the diode fuse assembly.
or the idle solenoid goes dead.

does it have a fuel shut off solenois on bottom of carb bowl? if it has check to see if its opening by linstening for a click when you turn on ignition, you can also feel it if you touch the carb bowl. But why did you change the battery and solenoid if its a carb/fueling problem??

Starter will spin but will not engage on z445

The bendix may not be pushing the gears to engage the flywheel. Take out the starter and have it tested.

Changed battery, filled it with gas. Gas not getting to engine.

Remove fuel line at carb and see if gas flows freely.

If it flows freely and the carb is dry either the float is stuck closed or your electric fuel solenoid is unpowered/broken. The solenoid is under the carb. You can see a wire coming out of it. Unhook the wire and check it for power using a test light. If the light turns on with the key on you can remove the fuel bowl and solenoid and test the solenoid and inspect the float for free movement.

Also, make sure your fuel filter is clean and your inline fuel valve wasnt closed accidentally!

I have a Murray riding lawnmower with a 17.5 HP Tecemseh engine. It turns over, has spark but will not fire. Fuel is getting to the carb but not in to the engine..this carb has a solenoid on the bowl and I...

If I were you I would pull the fuel solenoid off and turn the key to on, while still hooked up, and see if it goes in and out. If it does try cleaning the carb, if not unhook the fuel solenoid and manually spray carb cleaner into the fuel solenoid and that should loosen it up, but keep doing that until the rubber piece comes up by its self. Then hook it back up to the carb and make sure there is a way to see if fuel splashes in the carb if not pull fuel solenoid off again and remove a rubber piece then hook it up again. And you might have so much fuel in the engine that it might not want to turn over so pull the spark plug out and turn the engine over until there is no fuel in it

Not getting fuel to the carb on riding lawn mower with 16 1/2 hp ohv. will the fuel solenoid on the carb cause this ?

The solenoid only controls fuel from the carburetor bowl to the main jet.
If you arent getting fuel to the carb bowl your problem may lie upstream of the solenoid.

For "supply issues" check fuel line, inline-filter, shut-off valve (if equipped) and in-tank screen (if equipped).

If bowl is getting adequate supply, the solenoid might be suspect. Remove and clean with carb-cleaner spray as needed.

Hope this helps.

No fuel to start runs fine once started need to spray fuel into carb to get started

during crank power is applied to the fuel shutoff solenoid on the bottom of the carb. if the unit has been sitting with fuel in the carb there may be varnish build up in the solenoid. remove the solenoid make sure it moves freely, and there is voltage to operate the solenoid. good luck, Ken

1985 Chev Celebrity wont stay running

The filter you chg. an inline filter? Is there a filter in the carb.where fuel line connects, some had a brass screan in the carb. you can chk. the fuel pressure without it running, just unhook line at carb. put it into a plastic bottle or something to catch it and have someone turn engine over if it squirts out good thats enought for it to run they only put out about 6 to 8 lbs. of pressure. I don't think that solenoid would keep it from running, when it will run on either. but maybe if you unplug it and see what happens. It suunds to me to be a fuel dilivery problem, either something restricting the flow to carb. or you got a bad pump.
