My nikki carburetor 694941 replacement 699831 parts diagrams sow 2 car one has both scrws for adjusting idle speed air something the other one which iss the one i have only has the throttl adjust screw

SOURCE: Kohler engine carburetor adjustment on John Deere Model 112

When u adj a kohler carb you adj fuel not air. Always adj the high speed then low speed. Then adj the curb idle. 1.5 turns out is a good starting point. Then tweak it after its warmed up. Hope this helps

Correct that there are no adjustments, but try cleaning the carb jets first, as many times a small amount of debris in the fuel can cause a performance problem. A replacement carb will be close to $200, and NO carbs will be adjustable. A gasket kit is available if you need. Contact your local Briggs dealer to procure the part.

Try cleaning the jets first.
Fuel Starvation - Float Bowl Carburetor
1) remove air filter assembly
*be cautious of tearing the mounting gasket. If it does tear, you HAVE to replace it. It is part of the priming system
2) remove the float bowl fastener. This is the main jet
3) carefully remove the float bowl, the rubber o-ring/gasket will not be able to be used if it is removed, you WILL have to replace it
4) using a spray 'carb cleaner'
spray up thru the center of the carburetor
spray and clean the main jet with cleaner and 'tag' wire
(tag wire is very thin, and can be used to clean the hole in the center of the main jet)
5) clean any debris from inside the bowl or carb body
6) re-install bowl and center bolt, air filter assembly

*if you need gaskets, your Briggs dealer can supply. The kit is cheaper than individual gaskets, and all the parts needed to finish the above repair are in the kit.

I have a Briggs & Stratton Vanguard 16 HP motor. It idles fine and it runs OK at high RPMS. But it backfires thru the carburetor during accelerating. Any suggestions?


On some float-type carburetors, you can adjust the air-fuel mixture and engine speed at idle. Check for an idle speed screw designed to keep the throttle plate from closing completely, and an idle mixture screw that limits the flow of fuel at idle. If your carburetor contains these screws, proceed below.
  1. With the engine off, remove the air filter and air cartridge.
  2. Locate the idle mixture screw and turn it clockwise until the needle lightly touches the seat. Then, turn the screw counterclockwise 1-1/2 turns.
  3. If your carburetor has a main jet adjustment screw at the base of the float bowl, turn the screw clockwise until you feel it just touch the seat inside the emulsion tube. Then, turn the screw counterclockwise 1 to 1-1/2 turns. Replace the air cleaner assembly and start the engine for final carburetor adjustments.
  4. Run the engine for five minutes at half throttle to bring it to its operating temperature. Then, turn the idle mixture screw slowly clockwise until the engine begins to slow. Turn the screw in the opposite direction until the engine again begins to slow . Finally, turn the screw back to the midpoint.
  5. Using a tachometer to gauge engine speed , set the idle speed screw to bring the engine to 1750 RPM for aluminum-cylinder engine or 1200 RPM for engine with a cast-iron cylinder sleeve.
  6. With the engine running at idle , hold the throttle lever against the idle speed screw to bring the engine speed to "true idle." Then, repeat the idle mixture screw adjustments from Step 4 to fine-tune the mixture .

How to adjust carb settings


Hi Charlie.<br />Operations to be performed depends on how much tuning is needed.<br />Carb setting regulates the ratio between air and fuel in the mixture aspired into the cylinders.Optimal air/fuel ratio is usually around 14(air) to 1(fuel). I illustrated the complete job with cleanup and jet replacement and adjustment. In some situation you do not need to perform complete tuning, which involves taking apart the carburetor. In that case perform basic regulation setup using the two adjustment screws at one side of the carb. Adjustment simple procedure starts from part 2/Adjustment. A good approach is first doing adjustment using idle and thickener screws. Then do the whole tune up if the simple adjustment does not work.<br />The complete tuning is based on carburettor cleanup, regulation of main jet and idle jet and needle setup.<br /><br />Part 1 : Complete tuning and cleanup:<br />1. Take apart the carburettor,<br />2. Undo the float chamber(6 in diag) held by screws (26 in diag).<br />3. Clean bowl with with carb cleaner (put a lot of it in the bow, wait a bit and dispose it-finish the job with a cloth if needed) . Clean floats (nr.4) and other parts using carb cleaner and cloth.<br />4. Use a flat screwdriver to remove the main jet screw (placed in the chamber, held by big golden screw, goes between the floats). Spray the main jet. You must be able to see through it.<br />5. Use the carb cleaner to clean the accelerating pump and all the other parts inside the part. Needle and small parts must be cleaned. Clean the idle jet, which is the smaller golden screws. If you have a compressor blow into the jets (you can blow them even without compressor, but follow H&S).<br />6. If possible replace main and idle jets. Sometimes you may like to replace the jet with a bigger one to get a richer mixture.<br />7. Adjust the needle if needed. A lower needle settings means a richer mixture.<br />8. Remove idle adjustment screw (7) and main adjustment screw(31), clean them screw them back in without tightening and perform part 2. Leave the screws about one and half turn from all way in.<br /><br />Part 2: Tuning and minor cleanup - Here you mainly operate on idle and air (thickener) adjustment screws (8 and 12 in diag)- Start from here, if this does not work, do part one:<br /><br />1) If the engine runs start from idle adjustment: screw or unscrew the idle regulator to adjust the idle speed, the screw is placed to one side of the carburetor and has a spring (part 12).<br />Keep idle least slightly higher than the minimum needed. Example, if the engine stays on slightly below 1000 rpm, set idle to a bit higher with engine revving above 1000 rpm.<br /><br />2) The thickener, placed near that of the minimum screw regulates the air flow. Tighten the screw and unscrew 2 turns from all the way in. Do regulation from this position. <br /><br />Here carburetor diagram and part list. The diagram is taken from service manual. How to adjust the idle speed on my 1979 Aston Martin V8 Vantage


If your car is fitted with four Weber IDF carburetors, they will have to be individually adjusted for mixture and idle speed.This requires disconnecting them from the main throttle control linkage first. You must also have a Unisyn, or similar air flow measuring device to synchronize throttle plate openings at idle. It's a relative simple procedure, however not something a novice should attempt without the carb adjustment manual present. When finished with basic adjustments, the carbs must be reconnected to the main linkage where the central idle speed adjusting screw will be found. If your car is injected, idle speed should be automatically controlled by an electronic 'Idle Speed Stabilizer'. A photo of the motor, with air cleaner removed, will be helpful in determining what system you actually
have.

2000 Yamaha YZ 80 poor idling

The engine idles way too fast and will not correct with the sow speed adjustment


Make sure that you are adjusting the idle speed screw, not the idle jet screw (L). If you are adjusting the proper screw, then it is possible that the throttle trigger assembly in the handle has a load of sawdust/dirt that blocks proper return to idle. Take the handle apart carefully, and make notes on how the parts go back together. Check at the carburetor throttle assembly to make sure the throttle arm returns fully to the idle speed screw when the trigger is pulled and released slowly. Check the throttle spring as well to make sure it is undamaged. Hope this helps!

ADJUSTING THE IDLE SPEED AND MIXTURE
