Question about Refrigerators

Open Question

What is a "AL" indication that sounds an alarm on the Bosch refrigerator?

We have a built refrigerator in our apartment block at Jool suites, Singapore 217811. There were 2 instances when an alarm went off on the refrigerator. The temperature indicator showed the words "AL". And the refrigerator powers off automatically. This happened once when we went on a vacation and came back to find smelly stuff in the fridge and freezer. What do think is the problem and how do we solve the problem.

SOURCE: GE Profile Refrigerator PFS22SISBSS Bottom Freezer Temperature Indicators

I finally called GE about the non-working LED's and the temperature fluctuation. It's a known problem as many consumers have posted online. I called 800-386-1215 several times. What I found is I'd get different menu options nearly each time I called. The way I got to a 'helpful' human follows: Call above number; you will/may here a voice that states only 'for recalled appliances press 9' (may also have options for repair or parts) PRESS 0; next menu PRESS 5; you'll hear 'for less than 1 yr old press 1' and 'for more than 1 yr press 2'. In my case I pressed 2, then got a menu with 'for refrigerators PRESS 2'. Spoke to a woman who never denied that GE has a motherboard problem. She offered to provide a free motherboard but no labor. I asked (to be sure) if I would have to pay labor, she said yes or I could have $400 off a new crappy GE fridge. She said I would have to have a repairman come to diagnose the problem, then order the part and then come back to repair. I then said, 'You're telling me that I have to pay for TWO service calls to repair a known GE defect???? How much should I expect to pay for these TWO service calls???' She then asked me to hold, then came back on the line and told me that GE would pay the labor for the repair.
I also asked if GE was willing to do anything about the 25 cent door latch that cracked after 11 months (and is attached to the door gasket a $228.00 part) or the rusting wire freezer baskets and was told no. Hey, worth a try! The fact that they said no ensures that I will continue on my crusade to warn anyone who'll listen not to buy GE! Keep calling, after I got the right menu the wait was short the whole call was less than 15 minutes.

There are also Ice maker faults that are NOT included above. This should get you started and if everything passes above diagnosis the problem is most likely in your ice maker circuit. The reason I did not include ice maker faults is because they do not cause alarms.

SOURCE: freezer temperature is 3 Celsius,

The freezer should always be below -10C - if it goes beyond that the warning light will go on; if it goes above 0C the alarm will go off because the food will start to spoil. In your case it appears that the freezer side of your unit is not working and you must find out why.
Start by checking if the compressor works. If it doesn't then do some testing. First find out if the controls of the freezer have an effect: turn the thermostat to the max and push the quick freeze button. If the compressor doesn't starts then either the control board with the thermostat or the compressor itself have failed. Then to find out which just power the compressor directly from the mains - if it starts it's the board, if it doesn't then it's it.
If the compressor turns but the freezer isn't getting cooler then the freon circuit got a leak - it will have to be found, soldered shut and the circuit refilled with freon.
All of this requires experience and the correct tools. i think it's time to call a repairman.

Electrolux door alarm Won't stop. We open door to turn off alarm. Temp seems right but slight condensation at the very top of the fridge. Need to at least disable alarm until I can get a repair.

Check the back wall of the freezer, I would suspect the beginnings of or a full-on defrost failure... If there is frost on the back wall of the freezer it means the evaporator is blocked, disallowing airflow to the fridge compartment... Electrolux Refrigerator Defrost Thermostat 216731001 . If there is no blockage, but temps are still not cold enough, your Frigidaire may be leaking refrigerant...
