SOURCE: Canon PIXMA MP480. Print head slams all the way

http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/printers_multifunction/pixma_mp_series/pixma_mp480#ServiceAndSupport

The above is a link where you can enter '5100' and it will return 3 possible solutions for the error code 5100.

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.

  1. On the operator panel, press the button. (The display will go blank.)

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON button does not shut off the printer.

  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the button again.

  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord and retry if the above steps do not clear the error.
--- Secondly, it says that it could have 'packing' material in the printer when new, blocking the movement of the printhead, but I don't think that's the case since you say the carriage seems to move freely.

Canon ip3500 series the ink absorber is full contact the service center

This mayclear the ink absorber problem. There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printerwhere the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the inkcartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place itinside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of theprinter to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissuea few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

IP3500 DOES NOT PRINT WITH MAGENTA OTHER COLOURS NORMAL DEEP CLEANING DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, thenprint head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

Only prints other colors except black. Have change the toner but problem still exist.

Hi if you have put a new black ink in your machine and it still will not print black you will need to do a print head clean. you will find this on you pc in printer properties.
The problem is the ink can dry up and set in the print head so no new ink can get passed.
in the cleaning fails then you will need a new print head this is a part that you can if and if you go to Amazon and look for PIXMA iP3500 print head you will find it at about £45 ish

Canon ip3500 does not print black but colour ok ... whats up ... how to fix

1. this could be a clogged print head at the black cartridge. the head needs cleaning or the jets have clogged ports and cannot pass ink due to hardened ink.
This may require a print head replacement.
2.If you have recently place a new cartridge in the print slot check to see if you didn't leave the protective tape on the cartridge.

My Canon iP3500 printer is printing pictures that are fuzzy with white lines in them & apinkish-blue color. I replaced all the cartridges. How do I clean the printer heads?

Open the cover and first remove the ink cartridges. Then open the holder and remove the print head.Run hot tap water and put the print head with the nozzles up to stream water.Hold that 5 mins then turn the print head around with the nozzles down.Hold that for every color of 5 mins. Then put the print head in hot water with the nozzles down.Left it water about 15 mins and then you must very nice to dry. When the print head dry put it in printer and start cleaning. If this not help you need to replace the print head.
