I HAVE NOT USED MY CANON EX1 HI8 CAMCORDER FOR A FEW YEARS & IVE JUST TRIED TO DOWNLOAD MY FOOTAGE ONTO MY PC & FOUND ITS GOT LINES THROUGH AS THOUGH DIRTY HEADS.
IVE TRIED A HEAD CLEANING TAPE BUT THAT SEEMS TO HAVE MADE IT WORSE,IS THERE ANY SUGGESTIONS ON THIS ?

I have 5 gray horizontal lines on playback. LIke some other similar posts, its I have also had problems with an error message, but since it is playing now - with the gray bars - I can't report what the error number is. (I guess I should have written it down.)

I have 5 grey bars in the picture. Cleaning cassette does not help.
I guess there is still dirt on one of the heads on the drum.
Can it be cleaned manually?

Fast forward and rewind a cassette several times without using A/C, to drain the battery. Recharge the battery; and you may have found your solution. If that does not work, replace the battery- online auction sites have them for about 10 bucks. If that does not work, start saving your pennies- the prices have come down so much on these things that you can get a high quality Samsung that will everything but outperform your existing camcorder- for $135 USD. Good Luck
