Ssurely. If any metal contacts to the circuit board, during the set is powered, will cause a short circuit, and damage to components.

Radio turns off by itself.

if the two wires touched or touched the body it will cause a short, since everything is connected as a system this could very well cause all the problems. could also be a bad ground wire.

Lights turn themselves on and off

I have seen conditions of poor / missing ground, high humidity and nearby two way radio operation (CB, Ham, Police, Taxi, etc.) cause unattended operation (on and off).

Make sure the switch surfaces are clean and dry. Try changing metal switch plates to plastic / nylon (and vice-versa) types.

Ensure that the switch is grounded. Before removing switch from box, shut power OFF. Carefully pull the switch from the box and make sure the switch's ground wire is connected to the ground conductors in the box.

Ultimately, if you are unable to solve the problem with these true touch dimmers, changing to a rotary knob / slide operated dimmer or even a standard toggle switch should work without incident.

I hope this helps and good luck!

How to conect to the radio

It will depend on the radio design as to exactly what components to identify as landmarks.

In general, you want to locate the preamplifier stage, and this can even vary by type of circuit. Sometimes you can tap the circuit at the volume control, other times you have to locate the point after the detctor stage which is the stage with the typically glass diodes. Often a single detector diode for AM and either 2 or 4 detector diodes for FM. You can try at this point of the detector. If you touch the solder track with a metal screwdriver and hear a buzz- it helps if you are working near a flourescent light.

If the output circuit is an IC chip, locate the input and try there. Your results will work best with a low impedance microphone.

I have a 99 GMC suburban and the heater or AC works... It worked fine until I was screwing with my stereo and smelled burned wire...the blower works.... the fuses are good.

your controller burned up if you have some basic electronics know how its not too hard to fix, or you can replace it. when I say controller i mean the part the knobs are on, has a circuit board on it.a transistor on it commonly burns out which costs a couple bucks at radio shack. also you have to check the tracings on the board which are the wire in the board to see if any burned away, and bypass any damage.I did this on my 96 last spring cause something metal on my radio touched it and fried it. it works fine now.

When i key my mic my antenna light comes on. i have tried 2 different antennas and it still does it. what can i do to fix it?

The problem is most likely the coaxial cable.
A ground problem can cause this problem. Coax connection and bottom of antenna lug mounted should be in contact with mount's base. Antenna should not touch mount there is a insulator between them that antenna shaft passes thru. Mount must have a metal grounded mount location is a electrical circuit also.
Check SWR with the meter in radio. The ant light circuit could be out of alignment from factory.

I own a sony icf sw 7600g short wave radio which worked perfectly until recently when I believe a battery may have leaked and now it is caput with nothing coming on ; dead dead ! is it fixable and can you...

When a battery leaks it leak acid which can damage or ruin everything it touches. First how extensive was the leak? Was it just a bit or did it seep onto the circuit board? You can clean the terminals. Remember your dealing with battery acid. Do it over a metal can and brush the terminals with a small wire brush. (Don't touch your eyes until your finished and have thoroughly washed your hands.) Just like you would a battery terminal. Then when down to the metal again use a regular pencil eraser to finish the cleaning. You may try a drop of flux per terminal as well after using the wire brush. If a wire was negated then soldier a new one in. You can also use a small, dry, non soap impregnated SOS pad in place of a wire brush. Install new batteries and give it a try. If no acid ruined the circuit board it is just an issue of getting the terminals to run current through them again.

I have a 2002 Explorer. After the radio and windows stopped working, I did some research and found #17 fuse blown. But, when I went to replace the fuse, it sparks (even without the key in ignition) and...

the wire is shorted to ground or something in the radio. if you can pull the radio and put the fuse in. if the fuse doesn't blow the radio is bad, if it does blow then the wire is touching the ground/metal body somewhere. you have to trace it back. as far as the windows go they are on a circuit breaker and not part of the radio. and circuit breakers can fail

find what fuse is, You have to follow the wires with patience, from the fuse box to the item, you have a short circuit look if the horn + wire is not touching metal outside or inside the steering column, have You replaced the steering wheel? if the same fuse covers the dome light, take it a part and see if the + wire is touching the inside of the roof, plastic melted, or look at the on and off Dome switches at both doors, look for the positive wire on radio, antenna and main light switch, yo can disconnect every item and check any time hot wiring that fuse with copper wire every time, to You are sure
