SOURCE: problems with fractions on the Casio fx-115es

Hello,

To convert fractions to decimals or decimals to fractions, you use the [S<->D] key. Each time you press the key the result is displayed in the other format.

Alternatively, If you multiply or divide two integer numbers put a decimal mark at the end of one of the numbers (any one). The result will be displayed in decimal format.

Hope it helps.

Hello,

It may be due to the angle unit used. You can have angles in
degrees, in radians, and in grads. You should set the default angle
unit to waht you problem calls for.

To set degree as default SHIFT MODE 3

To set radians as default SHIFT MODE 4

To set grads as default SHIFT MODE 5

The
values of angles calculated by the inverse trigonometric functions are
in the default unit that is set . This may be the source of the wrong
answers that you get.

Hope it helps.

SOURCE: Why does it solve in fractions?

The calculator has two Input/Output modes: the default MthIO (new) and the old LineIO.

- In MthIO you enter fractions and radicals as you see them in textbook (multiple levels). Calculations are exact and results are generally a mixture of fractions and radicals.
- In LineIO, numbers are entered the old way and all numbers, operations are written on a single line. All fractions and radicals are converted into decimals numbers.

If you use the default MthIO you can let your calculator perform the operations in exact arithmetic. When you obtain the end result, you can easily convert a fraction/radical result into a decimal one by pressing the [S<=>D] key, or press [SHIFT][=] instead of [=].

However if you do not care about the MthIO and its nifty functionalities, you can configure your calculator to use LineIO.

To set LineIO press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO]

There is a misconception that fraction are less correct than decimal result. Quite the contrary. Calculations with fractions and/or with radicals are exact while decimal calculations are approximate.

Anyway, you want decimals and so decimals you will have.

When a result is displayed in fraction or radical (root form), just press the [SD] key and it will give you the so desired decimal representation.

If somehow you cannot stand the sight of a fraction or a radical, just tell your calculator so.

Press [SHIFT] [MODE] to open (SetUp) screen and press [2:LineIO]

If the calculator is in the MthIO mode it will always attempt to display the result as a fraction. To convert a single result to decimal, press SD. To have the result always come out in decimal (according to the selected display mode), press SHIFT MODE 2 to select the LineIO mode.

I am not sure what you want because the mathIO mode IS THE ONE THAT DISPLAYS results as fractions.

You have two display modes: MthIO (with fractions, radicals) and LineIO (with decimals). Which one do you want?

To set MthIO press [Shift][MODE][1:MthIO]

To set LineIO, press [SHIFT][MODE][2:LineIO]

Concerning the scientific display mode.

Decimal numbers can be displayed in various formats, Fixed,Scientific, and Normal. If you do not want scientific display of results, just set the mode to Fix(ed) and specify the number of decimal digits. However if a number to be displayed (a result) is too small or too large IT WILL BE DISPLAYED in scientific format regardless of the mode you selected.

Press SHIFT MATH 2 to switch to the LineIO mode. You won't see fractions then. However, if magnitude of the number is too large or too small, the calculator will switch to scientific notation in order to fit into the display.

Press the S<>D key, (located right above "DEL"). This will shift the answer from fraction to decimal. This sounds like a pain but having both functions available can be a big plus.

there is a A b/c button. This is the button use to enter fractions. so 4/3 would be entered as 4 |A b/c| 3

If you want to have the answers in fractions as well, then I believe you hit more a few times. And then there should be a display option, in the display option, there should be a b/c. This will show your answers in fractions. Hope it helps
