Can you hear motor trying to run if so . there are 2 things to check agitator has a mechanical device that when it spins it grips the agitator and starts to spin . its like a coupling . also the motor two ha a direct coupling attached to gear box both items are made of plastic in time they do break down . but if you motor runs on a belt and does not run then does it work in wash cycle if so motor ok but selector switch not working properly. if both cycles don't work motor start winding has burnt out can you smell burnt insulation around motor if so need new motor . if thi does not help you google you washer machine on line and you might get a break down on what other possible cause that could effect you washing cycle . but google brand and model number of washer.

SOURCE: Washer will not spin nor agitate
mj, sounds like a broken coupler, look at number 13 on the picture. The fact that it won't agitate or spin but will drain rules out the lid switch. This is not a hard job. Check this out first. Catriver..post back

Rick, for the posted model. This is a direct drive washer, no belt. As long as you are draining, I believe you have a broken motor coupler, about a 19.00 part. Check out the attachment, look at # 13. One end to the motor, the other to the trans. You will have to remove the cabinet, pump and motor to get at it. Easy job. Catriver.

It sounds like the coupling between the motor and gearbox has worn out. It should cost around $15 plus shipping and handling.

There are two possible causes. The most likely cause is the lid switch, which is supposed to keep you from sticking your hand into the moving basket. On many washers this only keeps the machine from spinning, but on other models it prevents agitating as well. The other possibility is the water level switch, but that usually causes no filling or overfilling if it's bad.
Both parts are available from Sears (www.searspartsdirect.com) and many other online sources. (I normally use the Sears site to find a part number if I don't already know it, then search for that number on Google. It's a great way to find good prices on more costly parts.) There are also a number of sites with detailed information about how to remove the cabinet to get at the parts if you want to try doing it yourself. Replacing these parts is pretty simple if you're comfortable with a screwdriver and have some mechanical ability.
If you'd rather have someone else repair the machine, this would normally be about a 1 hour plus parts charge for an appliance technician. It isn't time for a new washer yet.

This is the electronic washer. Unplug for two minutes, plugin then open and close lid 7 times. This will reset motor. Also make sure belt is not broken.

Hello Marjorie, thank you for your post!
From the information you have provided water will fill, drain and spin but your Frigidaire washer is not agitating. This could be a problem with your motor, belt, or pulley. Locating the problem is not a simple DIY job and I would suggest seeking assistance from a professional. They have the appropriate tools needed to disassemble your washer and prevent any future issues. I hope this information is helpful to some degree. -Matt
