I have a new router and i will like to know what command will show the maximum bandwidth the serial interface can transmit.Its a cisco 7505 series.

From the UserEXE mode type enable command to get the Privilege mode

from here type configure terminal to get into the Global configuration mode

from the global configuration mode go to the serial interface where you want to set the clock-rate type the command interface serial <serial interface number>

Router1(config)# interface serial 0/0/0

from here type clock rate <rate> command

But clock rates are only set if the serial interface is DCE. To check that the interface is DCE type show controllers serial <serial interface number> in the Privilege mode that is Router#

Router1# show controllers serial 0/0/0

How do i adjust bandwidth on E3000


There are several possible answers to your question, depending on what you're referring to as bandwidth.
On the Linksys E3000 router, you can increase your total bandwidth by utilizing both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands for your wireless N networks, and split your wireless connections between the two. This can be done with the Wi-Fi Protected Setup option, or manually through Wireless > Basic Wireless Settings. Note that each network should have it's own SSID and password.
You can adjust the bandwidth priority of certain applications and devices. You can set priorities from High, Medium, Normal, or Low, to control your network traffic. Setting a program to have high priority lets it use more bandwidth; setting a low priority keeps the program from using too much. To adjust these priorities, go to Applications & Gaming > QoS.
You can adjust the maximum outgoing bandwidth that your applications use as well. By default, the router will decide how much to allow your applications (Auto setting). You can change this to your liking by selecting Manual and specifying an amount in either Kbps or Mbps. This is also on the Applications & Gaming > QoS page.

routers have a limited bandwidth.. but some routers need to register your laptop serial to be able to connect to the internet.. there is a permission to allow your laptop to use the wireless connection.. check your wireless connection setting, then choose your router name, then try to connect..

The Bandwidth command's real purpose
First, let's discuss the real purpose of the bandwidth command. In the above scenario, the questioning administrator didn't understand the true purpose of this command, incorrectly assuming instead that the network would receive the bandwidth configured with the command.
The bandwidth command is only there to communicate the speed of the interface to higher level protocols. Most of the time, a routing protocol needs to know the speed of the interface so it can choose the best route.
In the case of routing protocols, IGRP, EIGRP, and OSPF all use the bandwidth statement. However, TCP will also adjust its initial retransmission parameters based on the bandwidth configured on the interface.
OSPF uses cost as its routing metric, which it calculates using bandwidth. For example, OSPF takes 108 and divides it by the bandwidth of the interface. To calculate the cost of a full T1, OSPF divides 100,000,000 by 1,544,000, which returns an OSPF cost of 64. (Cisco routers don't use floating-point math, so they drop the numbers after the decimal.)
On the other hand, EIGRP uses the bandwidth of the link to calculate its routing metric. Here's the EIGRP metric formula:
metric = [K1*bandwidth + (K2*bandwidth)/(256 - load) + K3*delay] * [K5/(reliability + K4)] We won't try to calculate a metric in this article, but as you can see, the process definitely requires using bandwidth. In fact, due to the default K values, the only values used to calculate the EIGRP metric are bandwidth and delay.
Examples You configure the Cisco IOS bandwidth command on interfaces. Here's an example:
interface Serial0/0 bandwidth 128 ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0 This command has only one option—the bandwidth, in kilobits, of the interface.
Router(config-if)# bandwidth ? <1-10000000> Bandwidth in kilobits Router(config-if)#bandwidth There are always default bandwidth values set for each type of interface, such as the Serial interface, as shown below:
Router# show interface s0/0 Serial0/0 is administratively down, line protocol is down Hardware is PowerQUICC Serial MTU 1500 bytes, BW 1544 Kbit, DLY 20000 usec, In the case of a serial interface, the default bandwidth is 1,544 K (or a full T1 circuit). However, you could have a fractional T1 circuit, and the default may be incorrect.
As you can see, setting the correct bandwidth on each interface is very important when it comes to routing protocols choosing the right router. However, no matter what you set the bandwidth command to, you won't actually get faster throughput out of any interface—the two simply aren't related.

My network card is only allowing 54mbps , I have 1.5gig dsl with a 300mbps router Do i need a new network card the driver is updated to last update


Your wireless network card is more than sufficient to handle the bandwidth provided by your DSL connection. A "1.5" DSL connection refers to a 1.5Mbps DSL line. Your network card is an 802.11G network card. Simply put, your network card will only run at a maximum of 54Mbps, far short of your 802.11N router's maximum speed, but provides more than enough room for the bandwidth provided by your Internet Service Provider. Gigabit connections (connections with speeds measured in 'Gbps') are almost exclusively for private networks or corporate networks with Fiber Optic connections.

In layman's terms, you can get a newer network card for your computer that will improve the speeds between your laptop and any other computers on your network, but as long as your network card is supported by any modern operating system, odds are it is able to transfer data fast enough to keep up with your DSL connection

Loss of speed with wireless


Wireless conection will only run as fast as your slowest device. i.e.
802.11 only supported a maximum network bandwidth of 2 Mbps.
802.11b supports bandwidth up to 11 Mbps.
802.11g supports bandwidth up to 54 Mbps.
802.11n connections should support data rates of over 100 Mbps.

So if you are running a mixed network with lets say a 802.11b wifi card on a laptop and a new laptop with 802.11n, your speed will only be that of the 802.11b card.

3. Configuring your Cisco Router If you have just turned on the router, it will be completely unconfigured. If it is already configured, you may want to view its current configuration. Even if it has not been previously configured, you should familiarize yourself with the show commands before beginning to configure the router. You can view the route and ARP tables, and these are just a few of the more important options.
As you configure the router, you will enter various sub-modes to set options, then return to the parent mode to display the results of your commands. You also return to the parent mode to enter other sub-modes. To return to the parent mode, you hit ctrl-z. This puts any commands you have just issued into affect, and returns you to parent mode.

MTU parameters usually appear in association with a communications interface (NIC, serial port, etc.). The MTU may be fixed by standards (as is the case with Ethernet) or decided at connect time (as is usually the case with point-to-point serial links). A higher MTU brings higher bandwidth efficiency. However, large packets can block up a slow interface for some time, increasing the lag for further packets. For example, a 1500 byte packet, the largest allowed by Ethernet at the network layer (and hence most of the Internet), would tie up a 14.4k modem for about one second
