Question about Acer TravelMate 2434WLMi Notebook

1 Answer

Acer Travelmate 2434 wlmi will not boot into windows

This fault is intermittent and is as follows
1.The unit Posts normally ,but before entering Windows a message sometimes appears "C;\windows\config\system 32 is missing or corrupt"
The message does not always appear, sometimes it just sits there with a black screen.
I ran a memory diagnostic which indicated a memory problem, which I replaced and upraded to 1Gb from the original 512Mb and the unit booted into windows.
I then restored the unit to factory state, and thought job well done, but I was wrong.
My wife uses the laptop infrequently, and, everytime it has been left to go cold the same problem arises.I run Windiag memory test (In DOS)which fails all tests. Then the crazy thing happens.I remove the disc reboot and lo and behold Windows starts up.
I have tried another hard disc that i had for elimination purposes and that will not install windows at all (it's very slow installing ,gets about half way through and stops at"Windows is restarting"
My train of thought is taking me to Motherboard,BIOS or CPU (I once had a similar fault on an AMD CPU)
The Acer "Support" website is about the worst I've seen and the only new bios I can see seem to be specifically for Vista,so I don't want to use them unless I have to.
The laptop is 15 months old so there's no warranty on it,and at the price of laptops now, replacing the motherboard is not an option
If anyone's got a suggestion or has experience of this fault Assistance would be much appreciated

Thanks shugster.I assume you mean windows recovery console.Well I've not tried it ,but I don't think that's the problem. When the fault condition is there you can't do thing with the machine even reinstall a fresh copy of windows on a fresh formatted hard drive.Unless the registry lives on the motherboard ,I can't see that being the issue. But the Microsoft KB article you pointed me to certainly fits the bill (Very strange)

Anyway I've installed a fresh copy of Windows on the machine (on a different hard drive) and the only way I'll know if it's a "fix" is to leave the machine for a day or two. and boot it from cold then.

    Thanks for the suggestion

also if you do get the machine up and running get a good regestry cleaner on it

norton has a habbit of doing these kind of stunts after an un-install

    hope this helps

Icant get my acer travelmate to boot from cd

You need to set the BIOS configuration to boot from the CD.

I'm not sure how the Travelmate enters the BIOS (Setup), it could be the F1, F2, ESC or DEL ket after the ACER logo and before the Windows logo appear on the screen. When the BIOS opens, go to the Config page, set the CD to be the first boot device.

Can We Change the graphic Card of Acer TravelMate 4102 WLMI

On laptops the graphics are built in onto chips that are on the motherboard, in order to change to the graphics chip you would have to upgrade to the motherboard to something that acer might have.

Acer travelmate 3210

Acer Travelmate 3210 is the Series
and in that series your Laptop model is 3212NWXMI

like Acer Aspire 5300 is series and 5320 is the model number like that.

there was no need to update Bios
now in case your laptop is turning on
Please try to start in the Safe mode
and there you shut down your laptop properly and try Restarting in normal mode.
Secondly, If you are well versed with the technology then please
try to reinstall the Windows Xp

and BIOS update is something you should be very careful of.
do not try unless it is MOST required

Acer TravelMate 330t

For some reason the "Shell" is not loading, try the following commands, see if they help.

WIN [enter] this should launch the normal explorer shell

Exit [enter] sometimes the system is set to boot to the dos interface, this will exit the dos shell and reload windows.

If neither command gets you to windows, then you may have a problem with your hard drive or windows install. Might be a good time for a newer system
