Question about Acer TravelMate 2434WLMi Notebook
This fault is intermittent and is as follows
1.The unit Posts normally ,but before entering Windows a message sometimes appears "C;\windows\config\system 32 is missing or corrupt"
The message does not always appear, sometimes it just sits there with a black screen.
I ran a memory diagnostic which indicated a memory problem, which I replaced and upraded to 1Gb from the original 512Mb and the unit booted into windows.
I then restored the unit to factory state, and thought job well done, but I was wrong.
My wife uses the laptop infrequently, and, everytime it has been left to go cold the same problem arises.I run Windiag memory test (In DOS)which fails all tests. Then the crazy thing happens.I remove the disc reboot and lo and behold Windows starts up.
I have tried another hard disc that i had for elimination purposes and that will not install windows at all (it's very slow installing ,gets about half way through and stops at"Windows is restarting"
My train of thought is taking me to Motherboard,BIOS or CPU (I once had a similar fault on an AMD CPU)
The Acer "Support" website is about the worst I've seen and the only new bios I can see seem to be specifically for Vista,so I don't want to use them unless I have to.
The laptop is 15 months old so there's no warranty on it,and at the price of laptops now, replacing the motherboard is not an option
If anyone's got a suggestion or has experience of this fault Assistance would be much appreciated
Have you tryed the recovery consol ?
from the windows cd there may be a way around it from there
