Why is my LG AH215 Projector overheating? HELP!

I have a LG AH215 720p projector which is just under 3 years old. It has a new bulb that is less than 2 months old. A week or so ago it started overheating after about 15mins of use. Firstly the orange light indicating overheating comes on after about 10mins of use, Followed by about 5-10mins of the fans going haywire. The projector then goes into some kind of cool down mode with the light flashing orange and the fans still going crazy, but now with the bulb off. As I have only recently shelled out for a new bulb I would really like to sort this issue out. I regularly clean out the projector with compressed air, so this is not a dust buildup issue. All the fans seem to be functioning correctly Any advice would be amazing.

SOURCE: HD 70 DLP Projector problem

Hi, My name is Doug Stanko.
I had the same issue and fixed the problem.
All you have to do is take a few screws out..... and blow out the inside VERY well with pressurized air. I have a compressor... and I set the regulator to 50 psi. But the KEY IS TO have the covers off so you can get between the circuit cards and blow them out. They were incredibly dusty. Even after I blew through the side vents.
I agree with all of you that say it is overheating. You are right. There was so much dust on the fan blades them selves... I'm suprised they were still spinning at all.
And like most of you... first I bought the $300 dollar bulb... put it in and 10 minutes later it was doing the same thing flashing through the colors. So trust me.
There are 4 screws on the back. Take these out.
There are 2 small nuts on the back around the VGA input. Take these out.
There are about 5 screws on the underside (think one was on the bulb changeout portion). These have long copper colored bars that go all the way from top to bottom.
All these have to be removed. Then you can take it apart. AND I PROMISE YOU WILL SEE TONS OF DUST ALL OVER.
Make sure you blow out the parts between the circiut boards AND the fan unit.
Put it back together... and remember to make sure that little latch on the bulb change cover makes the click sound ( it is a switch that must close or the unit will not power back up )..... and it will work great again.
No need for a huge fan next to it. Although I will admit that is an excellent idea.
I did this 3 weeks ago and have been watching it with no issues.
If you do not feel comfortable taking the screws out yourself..... I would take it to your local TV repair store and just ask them to take the covers off and blow out all the dust... and give it back to you. No troubleshooting... no repairs... no replacements... just blow it out.
I was an electronic technician in the US Navy for 10 years... Now I work at a nuclear power plant in Illinois. BUT I PROMISE with a good phillips head screw driver and a small crescent wrench you can do this yourself.
Good luck and you are welcome. I know how frustrating this issue is. But this is the fix.
Doug

SOURCE: Dell 1100MP Projector, unit stopped working, I

This is a very common problem with these projectors. The fans lock up and the units are out of warrenty. The fan you replace it with must be the exact same as the old one, even though it is the same as a 5$ computer fan. The processor will detect the non-dell fan and shutdown in the same way.I Havent been able to find any replacement fans that will work. I may be interested in buying your broken projector from you if you give up.

Email me at: nalexandrov251[A-T]gmail.com and we might be abe to work something out.

SOURCE: LCD Ceiling-mounted projector keeps overheating.

canned air from the outside is good, but a lot of the dust collects on surfaces and bakes on. for best results, remove the top cover and blothe dust out of every nook and cranny, wipe it off of the fan blades, and make sure all of the fans spin well. you may need to replace the temp sensors if it happens too frequently. also, during the winter when the heat is on full blast, it tends to get very hot on the ceilings. is there enough air flow in the room? lastly, make sure they turn them off at the end of the school day. this will lenghten the life of the power supply and the lamp.

Overheating

Hello,

Please clean the filters for the air and the air circulation path for cooling the lamp.

This will definitely work, pls also check that the condition of lamp is okay or not as sometimes lamp goes with the ballast unit of the lamp and that damages the new lamp.
